Competitive play has been a big draw for many Pokemon gamers almost since the franchise’s inception. Once you start diving in and learning the stats and abilities of Pokemon in every new game, you start to build a perfect powerful team. Sadly, not every pokemon has great stats or even useful/strong moves. Competitive play is a fan and community focuses idea, not really pushed by Nintendo and Gamefreak outside of hosting tournaments. So its all up to you to really know which pokemon are worth having around if you really want to dominate matches with your friends, or strangers, or try a tournament. As much as you want to know the DOs, you also want to know the DONTs. Here are some of the worst Pokemon for competitive play in Scarlet and Violet.

Worst Pokemon you can Play in Scarlet and Violet
Now, if you’re curious about the worst Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet overall, or just the worst in this newly added Generation 9, we will cover a few from both. First, the worst overall in the game for competitive play. Keep in mind a lot of the first Pokemon in an evolutionary line are usually the weakest by default and not usually reserved for competitive play. So we are only looking at single evolutions and final evolutions.
Luvdisc
At least the Paldea Pokemon can safely say none of them are the absolute worst in the games themselves. That distinction goes to, possibly one of the worst pokemon to play stat-wise of all time – Luvdisc. Luvdisc has been notoriously bad for years. It hurts to say that while it has a high speed, it has a below-average everything else! Nothing makes this pokemon really worth having, even in normal gameplay as it doesn’t even have an evolutionary line for some reason. It’s very cruel to say a pokemon has no use, but Luvdisc might have the least amount of love.
Sunflora
Poor Sunflora has the problem of being a cool-looking Pokemon, actually rather popular with fans, and having stats so bad it can barely save itself. From an aesthetic level, Sunflora has no problems. However, the darn thing has such a low speed and is vulnerable to 5 other attack types as a pure Grass pokemon. There’s a high chance it will be knocked out in one hit before you even get a single move out. While everything else is average, its just too easy to exploit this Pokemon’s weaknesses to be anything more than a detriment in competition.
Worst Gen 9 Pokemon
So now let’s take a peek at a couple of the weakest Pokemon revealed this year for Gen 9. These currently Paldea exclusive Mons might be fun or cute in their own right, but they are also types and stats we have seen before and the redundancy of that makes them hard to need or use.
Spidops
Spidops’ stats are honestly kind of scary low in some regards. Usually, pure Bug-Type pokemon need an appealing high stat like high attacks like Pinser or insane speed like Accelgor. Spidops has none of these things going for it. To put it plainly, the fact this is a final evolution pure Bug-Tpe without a second type to balance it’s flaws out, this spider is a sitting duck. Its defenses are ok, but the speed and attack are so low that its not like they can do much but be fodder for you while you go heal another Mon or something.
Squawkabilly
Pokemon games have had a long list of Normal/Flying-Type pokemon flood its regions since the very beginning. Pokemon like Squakabilly are used more for the aesthetics of the world you explore than actually using them in battle. Pidgey, Spearow, Farfetch’d and Doduo just to name the first gen bird pokemon that were found everywhere in Kanto. At least these pokemon had stronger and more useful evolutions (eventually for some).
We could keep naming Normal/Flying bird pokemon from every single generation to prove our point but the real sad truth is only Squakabilly at this time has no evolutions to fall back on. So this is just a single bird, albeit coming in several fun colors, and just can’t do all that much. Their speed and attack are higher than average, but their move sets and what they can learn are severely limited. Just, why bother with this bird when there are literally any number of others that can do everything Squakabilly can, but much better.
