What are Sun Stones?

Sun Stones are just one of the many Evolutionary Stones in Pokémon. Instead of having the gameplay of levelling-up every Pokémon in the Pokédex. Whilst this is the core gameplay mechanic, players are offered different experiences when capturing all Pokémon to complete the Pokédex. Such as friendship and happiness levels, evolving into different forms based on the sex of the Pokémon, differing colours and variations of the same Pokémon. A process of evolution that has been around for years is the Evolution Stones. These can be used on specific Pokémon determined by their Type, to evolve into a stronger and more viable form of its predecessor.

The Evolution Stones that can be found in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are:

Some Stones such as the Water and Thunder Stone can be bought in the Paldea stores but most need to be found in the various provinces of Paldea.

Where to Find Sun Stone in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

The Sun Stones are one of the many Evolutionary Stones that cannot be picked up in one of the Paldea stores located in the different regions on the map. Therefore, players must find the Stones by searching the wilderness and watching out for that beam of light indicator to help tell us that an item is here. The Sun Stones can be found in the provinces:

  • East Province (Area Three)
  • West Province (Area One)

Sun Stone Pokémon List

Now that you have gathered the Sun Stones, evolving the Pokémon is simple. With no specifications to evolve, as long as you have the Evolution Stone in hand, the process is much simpler than the levelling-up. But first, you need to find the Sun Stone Pokémon which can be evolved using this Stone. These are:

  • Sunkern into Sunflora
  • Petilil into Lilligant

Whilst Lilligant has a 5% chance of appearing in the flower biome, it is more achievable to locate Petilil first and evolve. Because of this, players need to locate the Sun Stones in the Paldea region as these are not purchasable in the Cascarrafa, Levincia and Mesagoza stores. By referring to the locations above, the Sun Stone can be obtained through a thorough searching of the East and Western Provinces.

Where to Find the Sun Stone Pokémon: Sunkern and Petilil

Sunkern

Sunkern is located in the flower biome in South Province, Area One and Two. As these areas are close to where we begin our journey in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, players should aim to pick Sunkern up relatively early on. Whether you are looking to fill your team with Grass and Bug-Types, or pretty flower Pokémon or simply trying to get 100% completion on the Paldea Pokédex, Sunkern can be found in various Southern spots of the map. Refer to the screenshot below for guidance.

As the Pokédex suggests, Sunkern is located near and around flowers. Players should search for the flower biomes only, to pinpoint the location of Sunkern.

Petilil

Similar to Sunkern, Petilil is located in provinces: South Area Four and West Area One. This Grass-Type, just like Sunkern, loves hanging around flowers so players once again, should focus on the flower biomes. As the Pokédex suggests, Sunkern can be found predominantly in Western Province One, past the Asado Desert. Below is a screenshot of the highlighted area (the black circle) where players can locate Petilil.

Petilil likes to group up with other Petilil. Players should look out for a group of friendly flower Pokémon. Although, these Pokémon, similar to Sunkern, are very small, players should have no problem locating these Pokémon. Once found, these Pokémon can be evolved using the Sun Stones.
