With every new Pokémon game comes a new set of Gym Leaders, and Gen 9’s Gym Leaders definitely don’t disappoint. Some Gym Leaders will always be easier to beat than others, but many of them definitely can’t be beaten on the first try. Keep reading to find out the levels of all of the Gym Leader’s Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet!
All Gym Leader Levels in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Although you can technically battle the Pokémon Gyms in any order, there is a chronological order that you should battle the gyms based on difficulty. Based on difficulty, you should battle the gyms in this order: Cortondo Gym, Artazon Gym, Levincia Gym, Cascarrafa Gym, Medali Gym, Montenevera Gym, Alfornada Gym, and the Glaseado Gym. Here is a list of all the Gyms, Gym Leaders, and Gym Leader Pokémon levels in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, so you know how to prepare for every battle!
Gym Leader Katy – Bug-Type Gym
Katy is the leader of the Cortondo Gym, which is a Bug-type gym. It’s recommended that you challenge this gym with Pokémon that are level 15 or greater, as that’s one level above what most of her Pokémon are. Here are the names, types, and levels of all three of Gym Leader Katy’s Pokémon:
- Nymble, level 14 – Bug-type
- Tarountula, level 14 – Bug-type
- Teddiursa, level 15 – Normal-type (Bug Tera-type)
Gym Leader Brassius – Grass-Type Gym
Brassius is the leader of the Artazon Gym, which is a Grass-type gym. It’s recommended that you challenge this gym with Pokémon that are at least level 17 or greater because the majority of his Pokémon are only level 16. Here are the names, types, and levels of all three of Gym Leader Brassius’s Pokémon:
- Petilil, level 16 – Grass-type
- Smoliv, level 16 – Grass/Normal-type
- Sudowoodo, level 17 – Rock-type (Grass Tera-type)
Gym Leader Iono – Electric-Type Gym
Iono is the leader of the Levincia Gym, which is an Electric-type gym. It’s recommended that you challenge Gym Leader Iono with Pokémon that are level 24 or greater, due to most of her Pokémon being level 23. Here are the names, types, and levels of all four of Gym Leader Iono’s Pokémon:
- Wattrel, level 23 – Electric/Flying-type
- Bellibolt, level 23 – Electric-type
- Luxio, level 23 – Electric-type
- Mismagius, level 24 – Ghost-type (Electric Tera-type)
Gym Leader Kofu – Water-Type Gym
Kofu is the leader of the Cascarrafa Gym, which is a Water-type gym. It’s recommended that you challenge him with Pokémon that are at least level 30 or greater, as most of his Pokémon are level 29. Here are the names, types, and levels of all three of Gym Leader Kofu’s Pokémon:
- Veluza, level 29 – Water/Psychic-type
- Wugtrio, level 29 – Water-type
- Crabominable, level 30 – Fighting/Ice-type (Water Tera-type)
Gym Leader Larry – Normal-Type Gym
Larry is the leader of the Medali Gym, which is a Normal-type gym (I can’t be the only one who finds it hilarious that they named the Normal-type Gym Leader Larry). It’s recommended that you fight Larry with Pokémon that are at least level 36 or greater, due to the fact that the majority of his Pokémon are level 35. Here are the names, types, and levels of all three of Gym Leader Larry’s (seriously, what a name) Pokémon:
- Komala, level 35 – Normal-type
- Dudunsparce, level 35 – Normal-type
- Staraptor, level 36 – Normal/Flying-type (Normal Tera-type)
Gym Leader Ryme – Ghost-Type Gym
Ryme is the leader of the Montenevera Gym, which is a Ghost-type gym. Before you challenge the Montenevera Gym, it’s recommended that your Pokémon be at least level 42, as most of Ryme’s Pokémon are level 41. Here are the names, levels, and types of all four of Gym Leader Ryme’s Pokémon:
- Banette, level 41 – Ghost-type
- Mimikyu, level 41 – Ghost/Fairy-type
- Houndstone, level 41 – Ghost-type
- Toxtricity, level 42 – Electric/Poison-type (Ghost Tera-type)
Gym Leader Tulip – Psychic-Type Gym
Tulip is the leader of the Alfornada Gym, which is a Psychic-type Gym. It’s recommended that your Pokémon be at least level 45 or greater, due to most of her Pokémon being level 44. Here are the names, levels, and types of all four of Gym Leader Tulip’s Pokémon:
- Farigiraf, level 44 – Normal/Psychic-type
- Gardevoir, level 44 – Psychic/Fairy-type
- Espathra, level 44 – Psychic-type
- Florges, level 45 – Fairy-type (Psychic Tera-type)
Gym Leader Grusha – Ice-Type Gym
Grusha is the leader of the Glaseado Gym, which is an Ice-type gym. It’s recommended that your Pokémon be at least level 48 or greater before battling him, as most of his Pokémon are level 47. Here are the names, types, and levels of all four of Gym Leader Grusha’s Pokémon:
- Frosmoth, level 47 – Ice/Bug-type
- Beartic, level 47 – Ice-type
- Cetitan, level 47 – Ice-type
- Altaria, level 48 – Flying/Dragon-type (Ice Tera-type)

The first few Gyms on this list should be the easiest to take on, but the others will definitely be more of a challenge, especially if your Pokémon are under-leveled.
