Somerville Guide: Chapter 3 The Forest

Things are beginning to get tense.

Jumpship’s debut game, Somerville follows our main protagonist searching for his family is the midst of an alien invasion. You attempt to hide out with your wife and son in the family basement but end up unconscious. With your family now gone and new powers being gifted to you, head out of your family home and into the heart of Somerville. Up first is the Forest. First time playing? Somerville Chapter 3 Part 1

Keep walking left in the forest, following the main path. Walk left until you come across two boulders that you need to squeeze through. On the other side, continue walking to the left. Eventually you will hit a chase sequence where the purple light that you could see in the distance of the forest will find you and attempt to catch you. Keep running left, make sure you are staying on solid ground and not traversing through water as this slows you down.

If you get caught by the light, its game over. So, make sure that you stay ahead of it. After running for 10 seconds there is a tent up ahead which your dog will hide in. Join him and hide. The light cannot penetrate through the tent. It can only absorb biological life.

Wait in here for a good 10 seconds until the purple light goes away. When it leaves, exit the tent and jump the fence behind it. Follow this new path, heading north until you reach a crashed plane. There is a light to the left. Hold the interact button and use the left analog stick to move the light so that it is facing the tip of the debris that is blocking the path.

Use the left trigger to melt the top of the debris, whilst simultaneously moving the light to the right. This will destroy all parts of the debris so you can go through the plane. If you melt the debris from the initial position the light is standing in, the tip of the debris will break off and kill you.

Go through the plane and jump into the pixelated water on the other side. Jump up to the ridge on the right side. Climb on top of top of the fallen tree and walk over to the left side. There is another passage north of the left path (under the fallen tree), go through to see the mechanical balls holding some kind of meeting.

Somerville Chapter 3 Part 2

Resume the game by heading back under the fallen tree and turning left. Follow this path until you reach a dock with a sunken boat. Go into the water and jump to get on top of the dock. At the end of the dock there is a wooden post with a light on it and a rope tied to the other end of the boat. Interact with the post and pull it to the right. Jump straight into the water afterwards as the giant pillar behind you is actually one of the mechanical aliens. Its purple light is searching for you so go to the boat which is now next to you and interact with it. Hold the interact button at the front of the boat (click on the rope on the side) and begin moving left, hiding behind the boat so the purple light cannot harm you.

Your dog cannot come with you in this part but do not worry, he will catch up to you. Walk across the shallow waters, hiding behind the boat. You do not need to wait for the purple light to pass you, just go all the way across until you are at the other side. Wade through the pixelated waves and head left until you reach a well.

What you need to do here is reel the bucket at the bottom of the well to the top. Then pick it up and put it in the pixelated water. Using the well wheel again this time reeling the bucket back to the well. This will leave a trail of pixelated water that the mechanical balls will clean up. You need to leave a trail to guide these balls to the debris that is blocking your passage to progress in the game.

Once the balls clear the path, head into the small cave within the rocks. There is a fire and children’s toys with cave paintings. Walk left and you will see a small child, who pulls a wooden palette over a gap to hide from you. Move the palette out of the way and go through the small crawlspace. After you have crawled through, you will reunite with your dog. Open the gate and head north and up the path where there is a bench overseeing the mass amounts of alien ships across the countryside of Somerville.
