How to Use Mind, Body, and Spirit in The Chant

Keeping track of Mind, Body, and Spirit is definitely important.

By far, one of the biggest surprise hits, for me at least, has been Brass Token and Prime Matter’s new survival horror title, The Chant. With a strong focus on a retreat filled with what many would consider cultists, this title has a heavy focus on all things self-care.

But what does that really even mean? And why are there three different bars that need to be juggled on-screen at all times? Well, we’ll answer that and more with how to use Mind, Body, and Spirit in The Chant so that you can be centered at all times.

How to Use Mind, Body, and Spirit in The Chant

Mind, Body, and Spirit play a large part in gameplay and are probably the most important things to keep track of in The Chant. Over the course of the game, you’ll be able to upgrade Jess and open up these aspects of her a bit more. If you’re interested in how, be sure to check out our guide on how upgrades work in The Chant.

  • Mind – Mind will begin depleting when in dangerous situations like fights or when in the Gloom. When fully depleted, it will send Jess into a Panic Attack which leaves her vulnerable to enemy attacks. Mind will refill on its own slowly over time but can also be restored by having Jess consume Lavender to calm it.
  • Body – This is how your body reacts to damage. Too much, and Jess will die. This bar restores itself slowly over time. You can have Jess consume Ginger to restore the Body bar faster.
  • Spirit – This aspect of Jess is important for two reasons; the first is that Spirit can be used to restore Mind if you have Jess meditate by holding the action button. The second use is actually for activating any of Jess’ many Prism Abilities. To restore Spirit, Jess is going to need to consume Spirit Cap.

Mind, Body, and Spirit also play a huge part in The Chant’s story, as the aspect of Jess that has the most XP by the time the game comes to a close will determine which of the three available endings you’ll receive. XP for each of these is earned by eating the consumables tied to them as well as reading lore for Mind, defeating Gloom creatures for Spirit, and defeating physical enemies for Body.
