How to escape the Sewer Rooms

There are some things that you need to know before you start your journey:

  • Moth Jelly is abundant in here, even if you bring buddies along with you. Don’t worry too much about conserving it, just be careful with your running around.
  • The Sewer Rooms is essentially a maze, with many tunnels and avenues. You can make your way around by remembering or noting down where every room is in relation to the entrance. Nothing will be too far from there.
  • The cockroaches are harmless and can be walked through.
  • Codes and patterns for solving puzzles will be randomised, but item spawns and rewards for puzzle completion will always be the same.

With these things in mind, ahead are all the puzzles that you need to solve in the Sewer Rooms. I have labeled them accordingly to the room that contains the pieces / puzzles needed to be solved. There are many items outside of the rooms that you may need to locate before returning back to that room.

Good luck.

All puzzles in the Sewer Rooms

The Labyrinth

The first thing you will want to do is find a room, a fair distance from the entrance, where there is nothing but gates and metal rails.

The door is unlocked and unlabelled, but is known as the Labyrinth due to the note on the wall. In this puzzle, you will be flicking switches that will open and close doors. This will mostly open passages, but can sometimes close important passages.

You will have to try and keep an eye on which switches open which doors so you don’t get too confused, but it is a simple puzzle and if you get confused, simply turn off a bunch of switches and go again.

At the end of the short labyrinth is a door locked shut. Use the cutters in your inventory to cut them open and proceed through. There will be a locked door, press the red button to open it as a short-cut. Ahead will be a bunch of spikes. A note will tell you to reconnect the cables in the Storage Room to deactivate the spikes to proceed.

The Waste Room

Before you venture into the Waste Room, you will need to find a combination for a locked locker that is inside. The combination will be on a note on a dead hazmat that you will find in the Waste Treatment room in a corner.

The Waste Room is an unlabelled room not too far away from the Labyrinth. It is unlocked. It looks like this from the outside:

Be careful, as three arm creatures will fall from the ceiling. You will be able to walk past them just fine. There are three things you need rom this room:

  • The Gear Lever that will subtly glow.
  • A note on a dead hazmat that will inform you of the order in which to connect cables in the Storage Room.
  • A locked locker containing a metal detector (needs combination from dead hazmat in Water Treatment).

Once you have extrapolated everything, you can leave the Waste Room and will never have to venture there again.

Storage Room

The Storage Room is labelled as such above the entrance and is very close to the entrance. It is locked, and you will need to find the Sewer Storage Room Key which can be found next to a dead body in the sewers. That dead body will also be next to a note that informs of angles and gears. Screenshot or take a note of this as you will need it later.

Once unlocked, there will be two items to grab: a bucket and empty oil drums. One player can hold two oil drums, make sure to carry as many as you can. These items will be needed for later.

There is also a generator connected to a cable puzzle game.

With the note that will inform you of cable order, reconnect the cables by dragging the end from the left to the destination on the right. Then, press the lever. If it is wrong, then you will receive damage. If it is right, it will turn green and the spikes at the end of the labyrinth will be deactivated, allowing safe travel.

The Medallions

Return to the end of the Labyrinth through the short-cut you opened up. The spikes will have stopped. Walking safely to the end, you will find a sliding puzzle. Once complete, the Grinders in the Grinder Room, but more on that later.

More importantly, to the right is another locked door that can be unlocked through the press of the red button. This will allow travel to the section of the sewers that has been blocked through metal fencing. In this small area are three medallions.

A dead hazmat will be holding one medallion, and the other two will be hidden under the sewage and can only be found out through using the metal detector.

The Statue

Find an unlabeled room with huge grinders. It is unlocked and a moderate distance from the entrance.

Thanks to the sliding puzzle, the grinders have stopped, allowing access through. At the end is a monument. On the pedestal are three symbols that will match up to the three medallions you have. Take a note of their order, you will need it later.

The Oil Barrels

Before the next step, you will need to fill those oil drums with oil. Very close to the entrance is a room full of oil barrels. Wear your hazmat suit before entering. There are arm creatures roaming, so steer clear of them.

You will need to interact with the labelled oil barrels and click on them to slap them to find out which one is full. Once you have found the full one, use your oil drums on them to fill them up.

Waste Treatment room

The Waste Treatment room is a labelled room a moderate distance from the entrance. You can enter the first room just fine, but will need the Water Treatment Key to get into the next room, which can be found on a dead body in the sewers.

Unlocking the door and entering will meet you with three narrow paths, each with an arm creature blocking the way. You need to fill the pipes of the pathways with oil to ‘stun’ the arm creature, allowing safe passage. At the end of each passage is a slot for a monument. Remember the order the statue and insert the medallions into the correct spots. If you are playing solo, you may need to take a trip back to the oil room.

With all three medallions in the correct place, a message will display saying ‘something has changed’.

The Gears

Return to the Grinder Room and walk to the statue. The top will be missing, and in its place will be a gear. Pick it up.

Now find an unlabelled room far from the entrance of the sewers where there is darkness beyond. It will stick out as strange, as with all the other rooms with grates doors have displayed a clear view of the room’s contents.

Walk into the room and walk down the dark corridor, just watch out for the arm creature. At the end of that room will be a line of cells with spikes clamped down in them, and a set of gears on the end wall. You will need to adjust the gears to deactivate the spikes, allowing access to the six cells.

Interact with the gears on the wall. Open your inventory and place the gear in its spot. If there is any confusion, just click on ‘use’ and the game will put it in the right place. Bring up the screenshot or note of the gear angles from the note.

You will have to place the gear lever on the three gears one at a time to rotate them to the correct angle. The left-msot gear is gear #1, the right-most gear is gear #2, and the bottom-most gear is gear #3. Rotate the gear handle into the rough position of the angle, where 0 degrees is not the top-point of the circle, but exactly where the gear handle starts.

Keep rotating the gears one at a time. When you have the correct position, the spikes will retract and you will be kicked off the interaction menu immediately.

Inside all the cells will find you:

  • Human Flesh to be picked up by the bucket.
  • Two notes containing two cable puzzle solutions for the next stage
  • The Sewer Exit Key

Make sure to find everything before moving on.

The Exit Room

The Exit Room door looks unique to all the others and is very close to the Grinder room. Use the key to unlock the door.

In this next room will be a lot of smaller Entity #25’s. These tiny rats will bite you, and are the only entity in the level to not kill you immediately. You can use the meat bucket to throw meat to the floor to distract them. Race over to the right passage of the room ignoring the door for it is locked.

In that room will be a larger Entity #25. It is eating a hound from an earlier level. Crouching, you can move past the distracted creature. In front of it are two cable puzzles that work the same as before, and you will have both solutions. Solve both puzzles. The locked door will now be opened.

Quickly race through the room, go through the door and up the ladder.

Congratulations, you have escaped the Sewer Rooms.
