How to Fix the Victoria 3 Launcher Not Working

An oddity that players are facing when trying to launch Victoria 3 through Steam is that the game seemingly refuses to actually work. Though, there are some ways around this that will allow you to play the game anyway.

Run as Administrator

First, try running the game as an administrator.

  • You’ll need to head to Victoria 3 through your Steam library.
  • Then, right-click the game and hit manage.
  • You’ll then want to browse the game’s local files and right click the file named “victoria3.exe”.
  • Finally, select Properties, then Compatibility, and then finally, “Run this program as an administrator”.

Verify Your Game’s Files

If the first Method doesn’t work, try verifying your game’s files from within Steam.

  • To do this, head to Victoria 3 from Steam and right-click it.
  • Next, select Properties and then Locale Files.
  • Finally, click “Verify Integrity of local files”.

Launch Using Executable

Still not working? Try this method instead, as it’ll try launching it directly from Steam in an alternative way.

  • Locate Victoria 3 from Steam and right-click on it.
  • Hit Manage and then select “Browse local files”.
  • Next, open the Binaries folder and then run the game through the victoria3.exe executable.

Other Methods

If none of those methods work to fix the problem, here are a few others that you could use in order to get things sorted.

  • You may need to manually update the drivers of your GPU (graphics card).
  • It could be an issue between the game and your anti-virus. You could add an exception based on the software.
  • It could be an issue with DirectX and the Visual C++ Redistributables, which may call for an update.
  • You could always try uninstalling the game in Steam and downloading it again to see if this fixes the problem.
  • Maybe your PC just needs a fresh restart, so try that if all else fails.

Those are all of the different ways that you can fix Victoria 3 if you’re having issues with it launching from Steam! Be sure to check out some of our other great fixes for recent games as well!
