Potionomics has a time constraint with its story progression, being that at the end of 10 days, a competition that players have to beat is held. Players have to prep the right potions of the minimum quality needed to succeed in them, and we have a few pointers to help you secure victory.
Please remember that the winner is the first to win two rounds. Also ensure that you keep in mind that quality is the most important element to consider. Even if you have the minimum potion quality on hand, if it contains any bad traits, it will decrease its value considerably. You want to aim for four stars minimum.
These bosses will inflict debuffs on Sylvia, usually that of Tension that doubles stress received from all sources and Uncertain that reduces interest applied by 25%. You can either present extremely higher-tiered potions to win outright, especially early game, or always equip plenty of shield cards. We will have jotted down our recommended cards for each deck below.
Finally, remember that you should always feel comfortable with selecting “I should take a minute.” to customize your deck before haggling with the competition host. This will ensure that you are as well prepared as you can be, and there’s no harm in changing it up to best suit your opponent’s own cards.
How to Prepare for and Beat Each Competition/Boss in Potionomics
Boss One: Roxanne (Day 10)
Potion requirements for each round:
- Health Potion – Minimum quality: Common
- Fire Potion – Minimum quality: Common
- Mana Potion – Minimum quality: Common
Our deck:
- Quinn – Plant the Seed, Press the Attack, Shock Factor (goes without saying, throw all preferred gifts at them to unlock their third card before this contest especially)
- Baptiste – Captivate, Build Rapport
- Mint – Sympathy, Keep Your Guard Up
- Muktuk – Pump Up, Enthusiasm
- Saffron – Meditate, Guided Thought, Casual Conversation (as soon as you unlock her on day 7, get her to rank 3 for the latter card. It’s beyond helpful in this early game stage)
Strategy:
Roxanne will chime in during your haggling section to stress out Sylvia. This is something you can expect each competitor to do unless you outright win with the first mention of your potion’s price tag if it is higher than your opponent’s.
Roxanne’s “Sabotage” card means “if in hand at end of turn, increase stress by 2”. Learn to utilise the many shield cards we have recommended so that Roxanne’s remarks do not stress Sylvia out. This will be something well worth considering with each and every opponent since the amount of stress that they can induce on Sylvia can be double if not triple damage compared to Roxanne.
In round one for an easy first win, present a Greater Health Potion. Depending on what you have already managed to brew, presenting a Greater Fire Potion in the second round will also bring you an immediate win. This will depend on its quality, however, so you may have to do a bit of haggling to push it over Roxanne’s potion price mark. If you only have Common potions, don’t worry, our recommended card deck should keep you safe. You should not have to do any more than 2 rounds to push it over the required price mark.
Boss Two: Corsac (Day 20)
Potion requirements for each round:
- Ice Tonic – Minimum quality: Greater
- Sight Enhancer – Minimum quality: Greater
- Speed Potion – Minimum quality: Greater
Our deck:
- Owl – Two Is Better Than One
- Quinn – Fuel to the Fire
- Mint – Keep Your Guard Up, Blitz
- Muktuk – Pump Up, Enthusiasm, Bravado
- Saffron – Meditate, Guided Thought, Casual Conversation
- Roxanne – Sleight of Hand, Flattery
- Xidriel – Jingle, Opening Act
- Salt and Pepper – Strike or Strike Later
Strategy:
To approach Corsac is not all that different to Roxanne. Rather, the game does decline in difficulty once you manage to best prepare within the first 10 days. That’s because this time, it should be a lot more straightforward because unlike how limited resources are when versing Roxanne, players have a lot more to prepare with. This includes having now unlocked both Roxanne and Xidriel, with the two easily having the most helpful cards at this time.
Also, focus on also gifting Saffron as often as possible, since her cards are especially beneficial during boss fights and stacking with her own as well as others. Saffron’s cards bounce off particularly well with Xidriel and Owl’s card effects.
Remember that presenting a potion of higher quality will always put you one step or more above your opponent. If you have been on top of cauldron upgrades in particular, this should be easy to pull off in preparation for this competition. This once again means that you either win flat-out when presenting it or barely need two rounds to price it above the opponents that will avoid the majority of debuffs Corsac can implement.
Boss Three: Boss Finn (Day 30)
Potion requirements for each round:
- Poison Cure – Minimum quality: Grand
- Thunder Tonic – Minimum quality: Grand
- Stamina Potion – Minimum quality: Grand
Our deck:
- Owl – Barrage
- Mint – Keep Your Guard Up, Blitz, Keep it Simple
- Muktuk – Pump Up, Bravado, Reinforce, Artistry
- Saffron – Meditate, Guided Thought, Regulated Breathing
- Xidriel – Jingle, Opening Act, Rhythm
- Salt and Pepper – Good Cop, Bad Cop, Salt or Pepper
Strategy:
At this point in the game, players will have unlocked the Aging process where potions can age like fine wine. On Day 25, Muktuk will mention a new equipment item he will start selling – Aging Barrels. This has a 5% increase in sale price. Aim to have put through all three recommended potions to have Oak-Aged Grand types of each one to be on your way as the winner. Play around with how many cards you should play with from the recommend deck we have covered. This one should not be too tough as long as you have used this new barrel for all three potions.
Boss Four: Anubia (Day 40)
Potion requirements for each round:
- Silence Cure – Minimum quality: Superior
- Tolerance Potion – Minimum quality: Superior
- Insight Enhancer – Minimum quality: Superior
Our deck:
- Mint – Keep Your Guard Up, Blitz, Fortitude
- Muktuk – Pump Up, Craftsmanship, Reinforce
- Saffron – Meditate, Guided Thought, Casual Conversation, Regulated Breathing
- Roxanne – Flattery, Chapstick
- Xidriel – Opening Act, Rhythm
- Corsac – Be Prepared
- Salt and Pepper – Strike or Strike Later, Salt or Pepper
Once again, this battle will not be too tricky. Just look out for her character-specific card of Thought Spiral that applies the Sylvia Debuff of increasing stress gained by 50%. Stress gain amount can also be stacked through this but playing the card itself will consume 1 patience and remove it from your hand completely. Either do this or avoid this completely by decking out on the majority of your shield cards.
Boss Five: Robin (Day 50)
Potion requirements for each round:
- Radiation Tonic – Minimum quality: Masterwork
- Curse Cure – Minimum quality: Masterwork
- Seeking Enhancer – Minimum quality: Masterwork
Our deck:
- Owl – Rattle ‘Em Off
- Mint – Keep Your Guard Up, Fortitude
- Muktuk – Pump Up, Craftsmanship, Reinforce
- Saffron – Meditate, Casual Conversation, Regulated Breathing, Tranquility
- Roxanne – Magnetism, Mass Misdirection
- Xidriel – Jingle, Opening Act, Chorus, Rhythm
- Salt and Pepper – Good Cop, Bad Cop
Strategy:
At this point, you should have ranked up many of its characters’ relationships. As you can expect from our deck kit, we focused on Mint and Saffron especially for their rank 10 cards. Keep an eye on Sylvia’s stress level and utilise the shield cards as often as possible. This should be smooth sailing.
