How to Level Up Quickly in Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed

Bustin' ghosts, nine to five.

The modern Ghostbusters are known as a highly-trained ghost-fighting force, but they definitely didn’t start that way. Their first gig catching Slimer resulted in so much property damage, that New York had to establish a special insurance policy just for their activities. The only way you can really become a seasoned Ghostbuster is by getting all the experience you possibly can. Here’s how to level up quickly in Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.

Generally speaking, you can earn XP as a Ghostbuster in the following ways:

  • Regular gameplay
  • Challenges
  • Contracts
  • Civilian Aid
  • Fungus

Regular Gameplay

Your first and foremost source of XP is, of course, busting ghosts and all the minutiae involved in that. Attacking a ghost with your Particle Thrower, trapping one in your Ghost Trap, destroying their rifts, and most other aspects of regular gameplay will earn you XP in small amounts. Try your best to be proactive in the hunt; don’t just bum around and let your teammates handle everything.

Challenges

For larger XP payouts, try your hand at the Daily and Weekly Challenges. These challenges include tasks like catching a certain number of ghosts, rescuing your allies a certain number of times, closing a certain number of rifts, and so on. If you can complete a challenge before it expires, you’ll receive a hefty XP bonus.

Contracts

Contracts are kind of like Challenges that don’t expire. If you check the table in the Firehouse, you’ll see a list of Contracts you can undertake, each with a laundry list of simple goals to tick off. Complete all the goals, and you’ll get an XP payout, plus some other goodies. You can always change the Contract you’re pursuing if you’re having difficulty accomplishing the goals and come back to the old one later. The only catch is that some Contracts will require you to reach a certain level before unlocking.

Civilian Aid

Because there are always a handful of shmucks who don’t take ghost warnings seriously, you may occasionally encounter NPC Civilians while out on the job. If these Civilians get caught up in the fray, they’ll get spooked by the ghosts, empowering them. You can interact with a Civilian to calm them down, which both gives you an XP bonus and helps keep things under control.

Fungus

New samples of spectral materials are vital for ongoing ghost research. While on the job, you may occasionally stumble upon a sample of ghostly Fungus. Collecting this Fungus will give you another XP bonus proportional to the size and rarity of the specimen. Keep your eyes on the floor for these things; they usually have a faint glow about them.

By being the best Ghostbuster you can be, whether that means busting ghosts or accomplishing objectives, you’ll rise through the ranks and get access to cooler gear. Because yes, it can get cooler than unlicensed particle accelerators.
