Minecraft is a game that many people believe is simply hands-on. This is not the case. A surprising amount of your resource gathering can be automated to allow you to get on with more important and exciting tasks. The automatic egg farm is one such case. Here is how to make an automatic egg farm in Minecraft.
How to Build an Automatic Egg Farm in Minecraft
Laying the Foundation
This is an extremely simple build with no redstone required, just the collective power of hoppers!
You will need all of these materials, so make sure you grab them. Note that your hopper count will scale with the surface area of your egg farm. I recommend 9. You will need the same amount of carpet as you do hoppers.
First things first, you’ll need to place your chest in the position that you want to collect your eggs from. Then, lay down your hoppers. The hoppers will cover the entirety of the floor of your coop. I would recommend a three by three floor, so nine hoppers arranged in a square.
Your hoppers must be connected to the chest (shift-right click on the chest when placing your first hopper). This is so eggs that are dropped on one hopper will always find its way into the chest.
It should look something like this:
Test out your system by dropping something into your hoppers to see if the chest collects it.
And that’s it! Your foundations are complete.
Building the Coop
Now all you need to do is construct the walls around the hoppers. Place your carpet atop the hoppers to allow the chickens to walk freely on them. Then surround the structure as you wish. You may have to put a block on top of the chest, which would prevent you from opening it.

For this reason I would recommend placing a stairs block on top of your chest from the inside. The chest will open and it won’t look strange from the outside. You can then use stairs across the entirety of that layer so it doesn’t look strange from the inside, too.
I would recommend the use of one or two gates for the doors.
Once the structure is complete, simply use seeds to attract some chickens into the coop. From now on, any eggs they lay will be dropped through the hoppers and filtered into the chest!
