Here are all of the different ways you can use Smallfry in Splatoon 3;

  • As a projectile – Smallfry can be thrown at your enemies or objects to deal damage over time. To do this, you will need to hold down the R button on your controller and aim in the direction where you want to throw Smallfry. A visible line will appear outlining the trajectory where Smallfry will land. Simply release R once you’ve locked on to a spot and your character should throw Smallfry in that direction. Press up on the D-Pad to have Smallfry return to you.
  • Distract enemies – Smallfry can also serve as a distraction if you’re trying to sneak up on your opponent. Although, they can only distract your enemies for as long as they have HP left. You can increase the amount of HP Smallfry by unlocking upgrades in the Hero Gear menu.
  • Clear out Fuzzy Ooze – Smallfry is also able to clear out Fuzzy Ooze by eating the Fuzzball creating the ooze. However, each Fuzzball requires you to have a certain amount of power eggs before Smallfry can eat it. Also, you will first need to power up Smallfry, which can be done by pressing the right analog stick on your controller. This will show you how many power eggs you need to cleanse each Fuzzball.
  • Find hidden Loot Anchors – While you’re exploring the vast world of Alterna, Smallfry will alert you if a hidden Loot Anchor is nearby. A red exclamation point will appear, followed by Smallfry jumping out of your bag and heading to the place where the Loot Anchor is. Simply follow them there and shoot the area around Smallfry with your ink to reveal the hidden Loot Anchor.

These are the four most common ways players can use Smallfry in Splatoon 3. Although, if you want to grow more familiar with how to use your friendly companion, you can test out the “Become One with Your Smallfry” stage on Future Utopia island. Since you won’t have any other weapons here, you can take the time to learn everything there is to know about Smallfry.
