How to Call a Screen in NBA 2K23

Spacing the floor and finding open looks is impossible without effective screens

In NBA 2K23, screens are one of the most fundamental yet important plays to run on the court. They not only help to create more space between the ballhandler and their defender but screens can also help to spread out the floor to create more open looks around the basket. As a result, learning how and when to use them in is absolutely paramount.

How to Call a Screen in NBA 2K23

NBA 2K23 is filled with plays that are specifically designed to free up a team’s best shooter, create an open passing lane, and get the defense out of position. That being said, screens can also be used in more spontaneous ways as well.

When the shot clock is winding down and you find yourself with the ball in your hands and limited options to make a play. Calling for a screen from a teammate can help to elevate the offense and create plenty of open looks that otherwise would not have been available.

To call for a screen in NBA 2K23, all you need to do is;

  1. Hold down LB (for Xbox) or L1 (for PlayStation) when controlling the ballhandler.
  2. The screener will then move up into position to set a screen on the ball. If they are not situated where you want them to be, you can press L3 to have them switch sides.
  3. Press RB (for Xbox) or R1 (for PlayStation) to control how you want the screener to finish the play. You will have the option to make them fade out for a jump shot, or roll towards the basket for an easy look at the rim.

Alternatively, you can also fake a screen to get the defense off balance by pressing LB (or L1) twice. Once to signal a screen and again to cancel the screen. This will cause the screener to roll back down into the lane while they’re moving into position to set the screen, which will throw off the defense and could lead to some easy points.

If there’s a specific teammate you’d like to set up a screen for you, you’ll want to tap RB (for Xbox) or R1 (for PlayStation) instead of holding LB (or L1) to set up the screen. Icons for each player on the court will then appear on the screen above their heads. At which point you would just hold down the corresponding icon for the player you’d like to set up the screen.
