Blue Archive is one of many gacha games you can find yourself falling into the deep dark hole of I only wanted to know their names. And while it is a battle simulation game with a variety of waifu’s, it does sometimes give off shoujo game vibes, but thankfully it’s just a wholesome game about teaching your students to better themselves. So, if you are uncertain and want to give Blue Archive a go, read here why you should play the game.
Blue Archive – Why should you Play?
Why you should play Blue Archive? I shall provide my humble thoughts on why you should collect adorable waifus. But first, what is Blue Archive? Your role in Blue Archive is an advisor or Sensei (as the students will call you) that has been transferred to the academy city, Schale. Here you will meet many troubled waifus, and all stories are unique.
Your job as Sensei is to look after the girls and help them grow as a person and team, with the help of Momo, a messenger. As mentioned above, the world of Blue Archive takes place in Schale; as such, it is a military academy with good and bad students; but don’t let her appearance fool you, (ahem) Tsurugi.
But, onto the real question at hand, why should you play Blue Archive? Blue Archive can sometimes play like a Visual Novel, especially when you’re speaking to your students on Momo. However, unlike a Visual Novel game with multiple endings, you’re just responding to move on to the next cutscene. So, if you enjoy Visual Novels and want some shooting action, play Blue Archive.
Waifu’s
Now onto the main plot; if you’re new to gacha games (welcome), you will be given your starting waifu’s whenever you start new games. In this case, you are a teacher at Schale, and you will begin assisting students from Millennium Science School and Trinity General School.
Interactive Waifu system (sort of)
The more waif-students you unlock, you can add them to your lobby and interact, but not really. If you tab on the student, they may say an auto-generated phrase, but they will always greet you as you log in. We should not, however, forget about Arona. Arona is an AI that works through a tablet you acquire during your first battle. For first-timers, she’s a godsend because you may be overwhelmed with all the content that keeps hitting you.
Also, once you’ve downloaded the game, be sure to tap the top of the screen near her head and pull down; she will close her eyes and slightly move her head when you move your finger left to right. In addition, you can also do with Sora, which is stationed at the Angel 24 Shop in Schale. Instead, tap her forehead and slide your finger down; this will cause her to become confused and have whirlpools in her eyes!
Content. Content, Content
Besides Arona pushing you to get that coin, as you can see, plenty of events and activities will keep you busy. However, like most games, you will first have to complete Area 1, But not to worry! These are mainly tutorial-type missions where you learn the student’s attributes and how the system works.
Now, as I was saying, there are quite a few events or campaigns you can participate in. These are Missions, Storys (Main, Mini, Bond, Group, Work, Event), Bounty, Scrimage, Commissions, Total Assult, Joint Firing Drill, and Tactical Challenge. These events either progress the story or give you more item drops. You can also open a Cafe to obtain more gold and increase the Affection of the student.
How to play (quick rundown)
To play, you are given a chance to select four waifus of your choice, however! You will need to take into consideration which Terrain (City, Desert, and Indoor) each student prefers to fit in, as this will significantly affect their battle abilities. This is indicated by Green happy face, to Yellow indifference or Red for absolute despise.
For example, Haurka is a great student to use in combat, as her attacks fan out into a triangle-like shape and are highly effective. She is a perfect example of a student who works well in indoor combat compared to Desert and City. However, if you choose a student to fit in a Terrian they are not comfortable with; they will be the first student to retire from combat. The only thing that will save you then is a Special student. These students do not actively engage in combat; instead, they are support and healers; however, some, such as Yoshimi, can assist with long-ranged attacks.
Rewards
While you may think you have to grind for long hours (while that still is a possibility), it’s not hard to get rewards. First, the Missions you complete (obviously) reward you accordingly; these missions will take less than a minute to complete depending on your skill as a player. Therefore, they are quick and easy, and soon you will have a bunch of pyroxenes you can use to pull waifus. Next, you will have daily tasks. These are simple, all you need to do is claim your rewards, and for doing that, you get rewarded (a win is a win). Not to mention, Arona will pop up and remind you to collect your rewards; that way, it’s not being forgotten. If you are a forgetful person, this system works, especially for first-timers overwhelmed by everything.

Sensei’s Final Thoughts
In conclusion, although some of the systems can be overwhelming for a new player, that’s just added to the game’s beauty. It’s fascinating and makes you want to learn everything and anything about it. Moreover, the battles are quick and don’t take up too much of your time (mainly because enemies are kinda weak, but that also depends highly on your skill). And in true anime fashion, you can find students from all walks of life, Tsudere (Yoshimi), Yandere (Tsuguri), Moekko (Chise), and so forth. So if you’re looking for a new gacha game, and are on the fence about Blue Archive, give it a chance; the waifus are calling!
