What is the Valheim Update Schedule?

The appeal of playing games while they’re still in early access like Valheim is that you can see them grow from a barely playable beta state into something vast and fleshed out. It’s creativity in motion, and in playable form! Y’know, usually. Of course, as fun as experiencing the process is, it’s not unusual to want at least some semblance of where the project is actually going. So what exactly is the Valheim update schedule?

Iron Gate Studios recently released an update roadmap for Valheim that details where they want to be with the project and approximately when they want to be there. So far, they’ve got four major content updates planned for the remainder of 2021.

What is the Valheim Update Schedule?

Here’s the official Valheim update schedule:

Hearth and Home – April 2021

This first update will focus on construction and the finer points of base building. It’ll include some new building pieces and furniture, and will further develop the game’s farming systems with new crops and food preparation methods.

Cult of the Wolf – June 2021

This update will be all about improvements in general combat and exploration, along with some cool new encounters. Due to the name, some users have theorized it’ll emphasize the Mountain biome, where wolves are typically found.

Ships and the Sea – August 2021

This one’s pretty straightforward: the beginnings of proper ship building and customization, as well as an expansion of the currently rather empty Oceans biome. Hopefully, that nonfunctioning ladder on the back of rafts will start working, too.

Mistlands – October 2021

The final planned update involves an entirely new biome, the Mistlands. In this new biome, we’ll find new monsters, new loot, new resources, and best of all, a new boss. Considering its release timeframe, one can only hope it’s nice and spooky.

Besides these major updates, the devs also have a laundry list of extra secondary features they’d like to implement should the time and manpower be available, or as they put it, “if Odin wills it.” These features are:

  • Multiplayer Interactions
  • Combat Improvements
  • Moon Phases
  • Tar Pits
  • Vendor Inventory Expansion
  • Svartalfr Brigands
  • More Unique Locations
  • Sandbox Mode
  • Munin
