Before we begin, it’s important to note that there is nowhere to change your name inside of the game itself. All of the account settings are done externally through the Blizzard website.

How to change your username in Overwatch

To change your username in Overwatch, you can follow these steps:

  1. Log into your Blizzard account

  2. Select Account Details from the left menu

  3. Scroll down to the Battletag section

  5. Enter your new name and click on Change Your BattleTag

After making these changes, your new username will take effect in Overwatch. The first name change through Blizzard Battle.net is free of charge. However, it does cost money after that. Every subsequent name change will require a $10 USD payment, so it’s a good idea to make sure your name change will be permanent.

It’s undoubtedly one of the more annoying monetization features Blizzard has incorporated into its system. The setting is already available, so forcing players to pay for it seems excessive. But there may be some legitimate reasons why Blizzard went down this route, such as eliminating hackers, inappropriate usernames, and more.

Coming up with a good username in Overwatch

If you’re having trouble coming up with a good Overwatch username, there are some things you can try. Players drawing a blank can resort to using third-party name generator websites like Jimpix. Websites like this will randomly create many usernames for you to browse, which might inspire some ideas of your own.

You can also go through the process to change your username, and tap on the “Randomize” button. The button is found to the right of the area where you would enter a new BattleTag.
