Being that we’re just over a week away, EA is starting to reveal little nuggets of information. Providing a glimpse of what fans can expect to see in the new game. Not the least of which includes their latest Gridiron Notes highlighting some big changes to Madden 23 Ultimate Team.

Here is everything you need to know about all of the new features to Madden 23 Ultimate Team.

Madden 23: All New Features to Ultimate Team

Field Pass

Let’s kick things off with arguably the most exciting new addition to Madden 23 Ultimate Team; Field Pass. Providing players with a clear path to progression, as they’ll now be able to see all levels, rewards and objectives needed to advance through MUT.

There will be three primary types of Field Passes; Season, Competitive and Ultimate Team program-specific passes. Seasonal Field Pass has 60 levels of rewards ranging from coins and packs to uniforms and highly-rated player items. Each of which will be updated periodically as you progress through the game.

Competitive Field Pass will include objectives that are more specific to particular competitive game modes. Players can progress by simply competing in Solo Battles, H2H Seasons, Squad Seasons and MUT Champions. The Competitive Field Pass will reset bi-weekly, providing you with more than enough time to work your way up and claim some exclusive rewards. While program-specific Field Passes will too have their own set of rewards and objectives related to the program.

MUT Champions

Another new feature to Madden 23 Ultimate Team comes with the introduction of MUT Champions. Which has replaced the Weekend League and isconsidered the most competitive mode in MUT. Not only is it where you can earn some of the best rewards but it will also be available to play any day of the week. Which is a major improvement given the time restraints surrounding the Weekend League.

Players can earn entry to MUT Champions through the use of Champs Entry Tokens. Which you can obtain by progressing through the Competitive Field Pass. Plus, your rewards will now be based purely on your performance in MUT Champions and instantly applied. As opposed to having to wait until the following Tuesday.

New and improved Sets

Next up, fans will also get to experience a completely revamped Sets function. Everybody knows that Sets are where you find some of the best content in Madden Ultimate Team. However, now EA has reduced unnecessary friction and the amount of button presses needed to complete a set in Madden 23. Plus, Sets will now be accessible from inside your Item Binder.

Another new Sets feature added to Madden 23 Ultimate Team includes the process for completing a set. Now, the game will automatically check your inventory for the lowest cost, unused or non-favorited items needed to complete any given Set. Not only that, but the game will also see the return of Account-Bound Items. Meaning that some Sets will automatically return the items that you use to complete them.

More competitive play

Players should also find a greater challenge when it comes to some of the competitive game modes within Madden 23. As well as more opportunities to earn various rewards. Now, players will have four fresh Solo Battle games per day (or up to 28 games per week). However, how you earn rewards through Solo Battles will depend on how well you progress through the Competitive Field Pass. As there will be different rewards based on the number of wins and your level of difficulty with the various objectives.

Also, the number of games for each division as well as the number of divisions in H2H Seasons has been altered. Now, there will be eight games total in a season and 6 total divisions. While the MUT Draft sees the removal of Ranked, hoping to create a more balanced matchmaking system. The Salary Cap has also been removed from Madden 23 Ultimate Team.

Player and Strategy Items

Finally, one of the first things you’ll notice is the change to your player’s starting OVR ratings. Starters will have enhanced ratings at the start of the year and players will also receive standout NFL athletes depending on who they select as their favorite team. While the Power Up system has too been completely remodeled to ensure that you are always getting the best version of every player you acquire.

When it comes down to Strategy Items, these have also been heavily updated. Including a much easier way to view which attributes are being boosted and by how much. There’s also an improved Strategy Item system which sees a reduced number of Strategy Item slots, moving down to just three (offense, defense and Team Affinity Strategy). Plus, there will be some additional ways to obtain Strategy Items as well, including through the Field Pass, the MUT store and auctions.
