How to Catch Sandfish in Stardew Valley

When it comes to catching a Sandfish there are more layers to the ordeal than just going up to a pond and fishing. There are some things that you’ll need to do on your quest to catch your first of many.

Firstly, Sandfish live up to their name by being found throughout the ponds of the Calico Desert in Stardew Valley. This fish isn’t limited to any one season, so no matter the weather, you’ll be able to catch this creature without the worry of the elements. Side note; after gaining access to The Desert players can also find Sandfish in garbage cans at times as well.

A couple of things to note about Sandfish themselves; they’re very valuable with a base price of 75g for silver and 112g for gold, and their size range from 8-24 inches. Additionally, Sandfish also grant players 5 health and 13 energy after they’re consumed.

  • When it comes to actually fishing for a Sandfish, you’re going to want to head to the Calico Desert. If you haven’t yet unlocked the desert, your best bet would be to purchase all of the Vault bundles in the game and head to Junimos to help you repair the broken-down bus. Once fixed, you can take the bus to Calico Desert.
  • Sandfish are quite finicky little buggers so it’s worth mentioning that the prime time of day for catching is between 6 am-8 pm. Now assuming that the bus is fixed and you’ve gained access to the desert, make sure you’ve equipped yourself with a fishing rod.
  • After that, go ahead and take the bus to Calico Desert. Once you’re there, head towards any pond in the area and begin to fish. Sandfish try to camouflage themselves so don’t be discouraged if you don’t see any or it takes a bit for a bite.
  • As for other ways of making Sandfish work for you, you can gift them to villagers, start a business selling them, or even start a business using them as food. There are ways of farming the fish as well by purchasing a pond and either catching your own or filling it with some you buy off of The Travelling Cart.

That’s all there is to it! Now you know how to catch Sandfish in Stardew Valley. It’s a pretty straightforward thing to do, you just have to have some money in order to fix up the bus and buy those Vault bundles first.
