How Old Can You Get in Sifu?

What is the maximum age?

Becoming a true kung fu master is not something that can happen overnight. You could read an entire kung fu manual cover to cover, but it still wouldn’t provide the same kind of insight that years of hands-on training could. That’s why, in kung fu movies, the strongest dudes are the oldest dudes. Of course, that only applies up to a certain point; you can only stave off the effects of entropy for so long. On that note, how old can you get in Sifu?

Every time you die in Sifu, your protagonist’s age is increased by one year. At first, this doesn’t mean anything. There’s a negligible difference between 20 and 21, after all. But if you die multiple times in one encounter and rack up more deaths, your age will leap forward by however many you have. For example, if you die five times, your age will jump from 20 to 25 on the next death, and unless you clear encounters without any further deaths, it’ll keep going up at that rate. Every time you age 10 years, your protagonist will become visibly older, with graying facial hair and wrinkles. This hits you with a permanent health penalty, but your experience also makes you deal more damage.

The protagonist’s magic talisman is what protects them from death, but on each of those ten-year thresholds, one of the coins shatters. There are five coins on the talisman, which means you can only revive from death up to age 70. Once you cross the 70 threshold, that’s it; all the coins have shattered, and the next death will kill you for good.

There is one loophole to this, if you can call it that: the last coin will only shatter once you hit 70. So, for example, if you were to age up to 69, you could still safely die one more time, even if you have a bunch of deaths racked up. That last safe death could age you 20 years, if you’re doing really badly, but you won’t incur any additional penalties, as you’ve already hit the max age at 70.
