Genshin Impact Players Are Selling Their Accounts For a Whopping Sum

Games come and go, but account-selling stays the same.

For about as long as online games have been a thing, people have been looking for external ways to make a quick buck off of them. There’s nothing inherently wrong with this; if you’ve got the time to grind up a character, why not turn a profit on it? That said, some of these out-of-game sales can get a bit absurd, especially considering the number of Genshin Impact players that are selling their accounts for a whopping sum.

A certain subset of Genshin Impact players have taken to grinding up accounts, likely spending large quantities of their own money in the process to roll for characters and items, then selling the credentials for these accounts on external commerce sites like eBay.

These aptly named “Whale Accounts” go up on eBay for mildly ridiculous sums of money, with Buy It Now price tags reaching as high as $3,000 USD. These accounts typically include rare and in-demand five-star characters like Ganyu and Raiden Shogun with their constellations leveled up, as well as five-star refined weapons like the Skyward Harp.

While there are more than a few listings for high-priced accounts on eBay, the ones in the thousands are actually an outlier. The majority of sold accounts usually ballpark between $20 to $50, with many of them denoted as “Starter Accounts” for new players who want to begin the game with a slight edge. There are also accounts with either a handful of unleveled rare characters or one powered-up five-star that can go for around $100.

Generally speaking, buying accounts isn’t really a good idea, since it’s very difficult to verify their authenticity before purchase. Then again, if you have several thousand dollars lying around to burn on an online game, maybe such a thing isn’t as much of a concern for you.
