Can You Use Stealth in Resident Evil 4 Remake? Answered

New decisions to be made

Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 Remake’s Director, Yasuhiro Ampo and Game Director, Kazunori Kadoi sit down with Game Informer and reveal just some of the ways that they have remade what is deemed the masterpiece of the Resident Evil franchise. From subtle remodelling changes, to modernizing the gameplay to fit AAA Video Games and finally by implementing new choices within the game. Inside the Remake, players will have the option to explore the environment in its fullest, uncovering all of the secrets within. With this increased freedom comes the decision on how you want to play the game. Yes, Resident Evil 4 remains linear in its narrative, but it adopts a new approach, the use of stealth.

How Player Choice Will Determine the Combat

Ampo and Kadoi explain that not only will Quick-Time Event be implemented in a small, continuous way of saving Ashley from the grasps of the enemy, but you will have complete freedom in how you progress through the game. What this means is that when you enter a new area, whether there are few enemies or a large quantity, these enemies will not be aware of your existence at the beginning. You will get the option to run in guns blazing or to take it slow and steady, changing your path to a more stealthy approach. You will now be able to avoid the enemies if you want to, giving you the choice in how you act face-to-face with enemies. This makes strategy a more important part of the game.

The Capcom Directors explain you may not get the outcome you desire through the use of stealth or running in with Ashley by your side. Therefore, you may wish to adopt a different approach until one fits the mold. This change is similar to that of The Last of Us Part II, where players had the option to play through every chapter by sneaking through and learning the level design and patrol of the enemies. This is a great change added to the Remake as it fits perfectly with the change of Ashley’s AI. As you will no longer be able to tell Ashley to hide, having the option to use stealth is brilliant. It both conserves ammo and allows a break in the constant fighting.

Is Stealth in Resident Evil 4 Remake the Only Option?

Of course, if you are a player who does not like stealth, you do not need to sneak through at all. In fact, Ampo and Kadoi reveal a new weapon, the Bolt Thrower which is silenced. This will mean that enemies will not know where you are shooting from, allowing you to take out a few enemies with critical hits before you go all in. As the enemies will not know where you are coming from, you should gain an advantage the second you enter a new area for these new combat options that Capcom have implemented.

You can now decide if you want to take a fight or not. If you want to sneak up to an enemy and take them out with the upgraded knife, you can do so. Ampo and Kadoi describe this new “trial and error” gameplay that is very different to its original.
