Can You Play As Ashley Graham in Resident Evil 4 Remake? Answered

Sometimes the Man wants to be rescued

There have been so many changes made for the Resident Evil 4 Remake that it is getting tough to keep track of it all. Whilst Trailers leading up to the release of the Remake revealed some gameplay adjustments, some specific moments stood out amongst the pack. Capcom clearly noticed how much their fanbase adored certain characters within the original Resident Evil 4, from Pilot Mike to Luis and also made the appropriate adjustments in making Ashley Graham a more bearable Companion to work with throughout the game. But the most interesting change in the Remake is the shift towards a more Third-Person Horror experience rather than its typical Action-Survival Horror that we all know and love. The question arises then, can you play as Ashley Graham?

Can you Play as Ashley Graham in the RE4 Remake?

The truth of the matter is, you can play as Ashley Graham in the Remake. It is a drastic change for the original and one that would only be plausible if her entire personality was changed into someone more independent. The point in which you can play as Ashley in Resident Evil 4 is after you are separated from Leon due to an Ambush from the Cultists. Whilst Leon fights it out anime-style against those who dare to cross his path, the POV swaps to Ashley and this time it is no cutscene. The Objective is simple ‘Rescue Leon’, but how? You have no weapon, no means to fight, so the only option that remains is everyone’s favorite genre in gaming – stealth.

As Ashley you must work your way through the Castle interior, with nothing but a well-placed Lantern to guide your path forward. The route is incredibly linear, but you will also face enemies that are patrolling the areas in search for you. There are puzzles to complete and new enemies to verse where, by the grace of God, these can be stunned via the use of the Lantern. Ashley has some great luck. Unfortunately the gameplay only lasts for 10 minutes, which a lot of Ashley fans will not be too fond of.

A Blend of Resident Evil 2 and Shadow of Rose DLC

This massive narrative shift is similar to what we saw when playing as Ada Wong in Resident Evil 2. Where our POV switches towards the Companion when Leon is temporarily out of the fight. This time however, with minimal ways of defending herself, Ashley’s gameplay is more like the Mannequin event in Resident Evil 8: Village, Shadow of Rose DLC. Capcom have recently been dabbling more with pure horror concepts such as the Mannequins or some weird baby-like abomination chasing after you through the corridors. I for one appreciate the change of pace for letting players experience multiple kinds of horror, but at the same time I too am disappointed that Ashley’s time with us is cut so short.
