With the Resident Evil 4 Remake fast approaching, set to release March 24th, 2023, more gameplay is being released as we approach its deadline. Within the gameplay, many changes can be confirmed from first glance such as the drastic development of Ashley’s character and gameplay, alongside the introduction of new enemies. But what remains the same from the original masterpiece of the Resident Evil franchise? Well, many iconic enemies are returning to the scene, with added details and characteristics to bring the fear to life of facing these monsters. These are all confirmed enemies set to appear in Resident Evil 4 Remake.
Returning Enemies in Resident Evil 4
Art Director for Capcom, Hirofumi Nakaoka outlines the changes that have been made when making the Resident Evil 4 Remake. Whilst Director, Yasuhiro Ampo and Producer, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi for remaking this Survival Horror masterpiece describe the modernization in graphics and gameplay, with upgraded and smooth Control Schemes as a means to polish what was previously a great game. These small details however for the enemies were crucial in keeping the fear felt in original and adding a new breath of life within these enemies. Such as adding blood to the Chainsaw Villager’s clothing and being able to see his eyes through the cloth over his head.
Same Old Enemies With New Mechanics
The returning enemies in the Resident Evil 4 Remake will behave similarly to the original, however new behavior has been implemented to give the player choices in how they play the game. Meaning that these enemies such as the Ganado, will no longer be aware of your presence on the map until you make yourself known. Therefore, you can adopt a slower, stealthier approach in your playthrough if you wish. Fan favorite enemies such as Garrador and Krauser make their return to the game, with a push for more fluid gameplay and controls. Leon now has the ability to parry and dodge smoother, giving you more options when fighting these enemies. Not only this but Krauser’s fight has moved from QTE to a close-combat third-person knife fight.
Other enemies guaranteed to return are the El Gigante, powerful and tall trolls that both Leon and Luis will take on. Of course, Salazar will make his return alongside his followers, the Cultists but they forgot to make his overcompensating statue in this version of Valdelobos. Whilst it is unknown if Luis will survive until the credits, we know that we are seeing more of him. Meaning that it is unlikely that Luis will die by Saddler at the same moment in the original but maybe a change towards Luis getting his revenge on this Boss will be a part of the Remake.
The New Enemies of Resident Evil 4 Remake
Whilst not many can be seen within the gameplay, we know for a fact that a new Boss is being added into the game. This is The Brute, a man with a cow head, resembling the Greek story of the Minotaur. Capcom stress specific characteristics and details by highlighting the movement of the cow’s head. This adds to the deranged, lost nature of the Villagers, making the horror scarier than its original for these enemies are too far gone to be saved.
The Chainsaw Villager has seen a few changes but the main note to take away is that there will no longer be a single Chainsaw Villager to verse as a Mini-Boss. Rather, players will come across multiple Chainsaw Villagers throughout the game, making The Brute the new Boss at the head of the Ganados. The Brute is the only confirmed new enemy added into the game, however it is likely that Capcom are keeping any tricks they have securely up their sleeves to surprise the fanbase.
Those are all of the returning and new enemies in Resident Evil 4 as confirmed by Interviews with Capcom’s Hirofumi Nakaoka, Yasuhiro Ampo and Yoshiaki Hirabayashi.
