bugsnax isle of bigsnax update

What’s in the New Bugsnax Isle of BIGsnax Update?

Bugsnax was, at least in my humble opinion, one of the sleeper hits of 2020. It was a creative, colorful adventure full of likeable and relatable characters, which was surprising since all of the characters look like Muppets. It also had a clever system of puzzle-solving paired with that addictive, gotta-catch-em-all appeal of games like Pokemon Snap. Whether you missed out on the Bugsnax train the first time around or have been looking for a reason to pick it back up, there’s a major content update coming this month guaranteed to make you hungry all over again. So, what’s in the new Bugsnax update?

Bugsnax Isle of BIGsnax Update

The new Bugsnax update, titled “Isle of BIGsnax,” is a completely free content update that will be applied to all versions of Bugsnax on April 28th. That includes the existing versions on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and the Epic Games Store, as well as the new versions releasing on the same day on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam. Here’s a short list of what to expect in this new content update if you’re in a hurry:

  • New biome
  • New quests to complete
  • New, supersized Bugsnax
  • New challenge system
  • Your own customizable house in Snaxburg
  • Hats for Bugsnax!

The major focal point of the update is the titular Isle of BIGsnax, a new island that suddenly emerges from the ocean off the coast of Snaktooth Isle. Snorpy will inform you of this development in Snaxburg after you complete all of his other sidequests. If you’ve already beaten the game, just load up your save file and you’ll be dropped off before the story’s point of no return.

Snorpy will task you, Chandlo, Floofty, Triffany, and Shelda (whose voice actors have all returned, by the way) with exploring this new island, cataloging its Bugsnax, and generally helping out wherever you can. Many of the Bugsnax on this island are way too big to catch with your usual traps and tactics, so you’ll need to use some new tricks to capture them, such as the mysterious minimizing Shrink Spice.

Back in Snaxburg, the Grumpuses have finally built you your own house! No more awkwardly sleeping on Lizbert’s bed. Aside from having a place to rest your head, it also has a mailbox where the Grumpuses will send catch and exploration challenges. Completing these challenges will earn you customization items for your house, including furniture, wallpaper, decorations, and more.

Finally, hats! Everything’s better with more hats. As you feed Bugsnax to the Grumpuses, rare forms of Bugsnax wearing various kinds of hats will start appearing in the wild. If you can catch them, you can use their hats to customize the Bugsnax Gramble keeps in his barn.

Once again, all of this new stuff will be releasing on April 28th, 100% free of charge for all current and future owners of Bugsnax.
