Microsoft, and the Xbox division specifically, have been making a calculated effort to take the PC gaming sphere by storm with the prevalence of Xbox Game Pass. Part of that strategy is making sure that games people want are on the service, and when it comes to PC gamers, you can’t get away without paying tribute to the grand strategy genre. Luckily, Microsoft secured Age of Empires IV for Game Pass, which folks are pretty hyped about. Before you get on the hype train, though, you should know what to expect. Here are all of the civilizations in Age of Empires IV.
All Civilizations in Age of Empires IV
At Age of Empire IV‘s initial launch, you’ll be able to play as one of eight different historical civilizations. Those eight civilizations are as follows:
- English
- French
- Mongols
- Chinese
- Delhi Sultanate
- Rus
- Holy Roman Empire
- Abbasid Dynasty
Each of these civilizations work in ways both similar and different. For example, if you want a gameplay experience more in line with the previous Age of Empires games, you’d probably want to pick English, as they have the most carryover in terms of legacy mechanics. On the other hand, if you want to mix it up a bit, you could try leading the Mongols, who have the ability to pack up their entire home base and move it elsewhere on the map.
Additionally, the game will launch with four narrative campaigns to start, with more to come as post-launch development continues. The first four campaigns, and the civilizations they focus on, are as follows:
- “The Normans” – The Norman conquest of England
- “The Hundred Years War” – The major conflict between the English and the French
- “The Mongol Empire” – The creation and rise of the Mongols
- “The Rise of Moscow” – The formation of major Rus territories
