Whether you’re out camping or trying to survive in the midst of a zombie apocalypse, starting a safe, controlled fire is a vital survival skill. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to do that in real life, though; it’s a lot simpler in games like DayZ. Here’s how to make a fire in DayZ.
How to Make a Fire in DayZ
To create a typical campfire in DayZ, you will need a few materials:
- A sharp tool like a machete, axe, or knife
- Some sticks
- Soft materials to use as tinder (paper, bark, rags, etc.)
- A stack of firewood
First, using your sharp tool, chop down four sticks from ground-level bushes. Make sure you also have your tinder material readily available in your inventory. You’ll need to gather some bark or rags if you don’t have them already. In your inventory, combine the sticks with the tinder, and you’ll create a fireplace kit.
Equip the fireplace kit and deploy it on the ground. Equip a box of matches, a lighter, or a road flare from your inventory, and stand near the fireplace to get a prompt to light it. Congratulations, you’ve started a fire! To keep your fire going, chop down some trees to obtain stacks of firewood. When you’re in the vicinity of the fire, you can place the firewood in under the “Fuel” section.
If you don’t have any matches, you can also make a hand-drill kit to start a fire manually by combining sticks with dark-colored tree bark. Just equip the hand-drill and stand next to the unlit fireplace, and you can fire it up.
With the power of a proper campfire, you can ward off the cold (and, by extension, disease), create a source of light, and even cook!
