How to Get Gold Coins in Valheim

How to Get Gold Coins in Valheim

The notion of commerce in a crafting and survival game seems kinda wacky to me. Aren’t you supposed to be, I dunno, living off the grid? Surviving off the fat of the land or whatever? Kinda ruins the mood when you can run around the corner for a bag of chips, but I guess I’m the weirdo here. If you’ve got no such hangups, you can visit your friendly neighborhood trader for all kinds of helpful doodads, though first you’re gonna need some scratch. Here’s how to get gold coins in Valheim.

Located somewhere within the Black Forest biome of Valheim is a squat, blue-faced dude by the name of Hadlor. Why is he selling random chotchkies in the middle of a spooky forest surrounded by Greydwarves? None of your dang business. Stop asking questions, and buy one of Hadlor’s delightful wares, including:

  • Fishing Bait x50 (10 Gold)
  • Yule Hat (100 Gold)
  • Ymir Flesh (120 Gold)
  • Fishing Rod (350 Gold)
  • Dverger Circlet (620 Gold)
  • Megingjord (950 Gold)

Of course, you can’t buy anything without the gold to do so. Luckily, despite being in the middle of the untamed Norse wilderness, the world of Valheim is absolutely lousy with coinage. You can get gold from defeating monsters, hunting treasure, exploring crypts, and sometimes even just lying around on the ground!

If pocket change doesn’t do it for you, be on the lookout for valuable objects like rubies, amber, and pearls. Hadlor will buy these things off of you for a good paycheck, and then you can immediately reinvest your newfound fortune in his wares! Everyone wins! Oh, and don’t feel like you need to hoard valuable stuff; at least at the moment, they have no other purpose in the game besides flipping for a quick buck, so as soon as you get them, throw them Hadlor’s way.
