Why Is Choo Choo Charles in Garten of Banban 4? Fans Are Perplexed

More frightening indie horror mascots could potentially be teaming up in the future.

If you’ve heard of Choo Choo Charles, chances are you’ve heard of Garten of Banban. As both games are part of the indie horror genre, their playerbases tend to overlap with each other. Which made it all the more surprising for people playing Garten of Banban 4 when Choo Choo Charles was shown in the game. Each of the games are developed by completely different people/studios, making it all the more confusing as to why they are now in the same game. So why is Choo Choo Charles in Garten of Banban 4? Let’s find out, and surmise what this could mean for other indie horrow games going forward.

The Garten of Banban series is an indie horror project by developer Euphoric Brothers, while Two Star Games worked on Choo Choo Charles. Each group of developers have had no public connections up until this point, which is why players were curiously pleased at seeing the murderous tank engine in the new Garten game. During your short playtime in Garten of Banban 4, players will hear the familiar sound of a train off in the darkness. Fans who played Choo Choo Charles will recognize this as the exact same sound from the game. However if that wasn’t enough, a few minutes later, Charles comes into full view, attempting to take some residents.

After doing a bit of research, it seems that both teams are looking to integrate their mascots within their titles, while hinting that other Indie Horror game appearances might be possible later on. A Twitter post from the developers of Choo Choo Charles on the launch day of Garten of Banban 4 shows an interesting piece of artwork with Charles, Banban, and Jumbo Josh. This, combined with the caption “Banban just opened the indie horror cinematic universe. So happy this is finally canon” seems to confirm that they are attempting to take their games further than people thought.

Most likely inspired by other franchises such as Marvel and DC, the developers are looking to intermingle indie horror IPs, allowing characters to be brought from one game to another. People have already begun to speculate if we’ll see games like Poppy’s Playtime and the like being introduced into the IHCU. This will mostly work on a dev-to-dev basis, as without Two Star Games’ permission to use their character in Garten of Banban 4, this might not have come to fruition.
