Who is Roy Carson in Fears to Fathom – Carson House? The Story Explained

When fans go too far

Fears to Fathom – Carson House is the third episode of the anthology series made by Rayll. It is another game in the home invasion horror subgenre which takes allegedly real life situations and reimagines the outcome. Rayll’s latest game, released January 6th, 2023, follows an 18 year old Noah Baker who is being stalked by someone. At the time of playing the game, you have no idea who is watching you and what the possible outcome to could be for this game. All signs point towards some crazed, revengeful fan of a woman named Allison Brown Carson, wife to Roy Carson. But who are these two characters and what do they have to do with Carson House’s main plotline? Let us dive into it.

The Horrors of a Fandom

When you read stories online about how far fans will go to prove their love for their idols can get a bit sickening after a while. From fans touching their idol inappropriately on stage or consuming bodily fluids from their idols (I am looking at you Slowthai). The story of Carson House lures you in with the identity of the stalker. Could it be that the person messing with the house is indeed a crazed fan of Allison Brown who wants revenge against Roy Carson? After all, it is his house that Noah is staying at. No one who knows Noah would know where he is aside from his parents and Roy himself, right?

Who is Roy Carson?

If you search for Roy Carson in the game’s computer you will see details about his personal affairs. This information is what the game wants you to believe to be the reason for the strange occurrences happening around the house. That some fan who is in utter delusional, completely in love with and infatuated by Allison is “doing Gods work” by bringing justice to Roy. Roy and Allison had a very public divorce, which lead to the usual split in the public of whose side to take. For most, the fans who are devoted to Allison went on her side. But even when the divorce is finalised, fans continued to harass Roy.

By finding out where he lives. They regularly visit the house, knocking on the door and sending death threats. By providing backstory into Roy’s character in the game, it sends us down the wrong path in who the intruder might be. As we play as Noah we notice that this is not a simple house-sitting job. As we are told to feed the dog and buy groceries in the middle of the night. This tells us that Roy is not comfortable doing those normal tasks that anyone would do. Instead, he sends out a stranger to sort out his grocery shopping.

Conclusion

It is a smart decision to tell us about the background of Roy and his own personal horrors he has been facing. It explains his CCTV system which he has a whole room dedicated into monitoring every inch of his house. Why he also will not go out at night to buy groceries. Rayll sends you down this path where you think you know where the game is going. But by the end of it, the outcome is far from what you initially presumed.

We hope that clears up any questions you may have had about the character of Roy Carson. If you have not played the third episode of Fears to Fathom yet, it is available for purchase on Steam.
