Their world is being threatened by alien forces. Can you stop them?

The developers of Genshin Impact have been hard at work developing the next installment in the Honkai universe. Honkai Star Rail is the 4th game under the Honkai series and gameplay wise, is seeming to take players into a Genshin-esque open world. However, what people are equally as interested in with this game is the overarching story around it. With previous Honkai games having been released, many long time fans are curious as to where this new title fits. And while the game might not be directly intertwined with the older games, there are still a few things to keep in mind. This has all culminated into one open ended question: when does Honkai Star Rail take place?

Without going into too much detail, Honkai Star Rail is loosely connected to the previous game, Honkai Imapct 3rd. One of the more recent updates for this game brought about A Post Honkai Odyssey (APHO). A section of the story that takes place in 2025, this is considered to be the bridge between the two games. In this story, there are being called Sky People that try and harvest any and all Honkai energy they can find. This ties directly into what Honkai Star Rail is about.

HoYoverse decided to release an official manga titled Alien Space, in which you can see a few key characters from the Honkai world. While the manga jumps back in time for a section of it, you can see that these characters are working towards stopping the Sky People from harvesting another world. This manga ends in 2029 and is touted as a prequel to Honkai Star Rail. Meaning, that we at least know that the start of Honkai Star Rail will take place in 2029. Which if you remember, was only a few years after the end of APHO. Only time will tell just where exactly this will go, but it’s looking to be quite an interesting ride.
