Choo-Choo Charles has the makings of an incredibly impressive indie experience. It’s an open world, survival horror adventure created by one person: Gavin Eisenbeisz. In the game, players are given an upgradable train they must use to navigate a mysterious island. But, they aren’t alone. Somewhere on the island is a demonic, spider-train with the given name “Charles,” who will hunt the player.
As I said, it looks to be an incredibly impressive indie experience. But, when can players look to encounter Charles? In a new TikTok posted by developer and publisher Two Star Games, the answer is made clear!
Thrice Delayed …
In this new TikTok posted by Two Star Games, Eisenbeisz explains that the project has been delayed several times since development started.
“When I actually announced that I was going to be making this ‘Charles’ game, it kinda blew up, and now people were expecting it to be a real thing,” Eisenbeisz said. He goes on to explain that he had to teach himself how to make an open world game. In order to motivate himself, he decided to set an unrealistic release date of four months.
“I just figured for some reason that setting a really tight release date would make me more motivated,” he continued. “Spoiler alert: it didn’t!”

It was then, Eisenbeisz says, that he knew he’d never hit that extremely short window, so he took his time, knowing he’d have to delay it. The next — internal — deadline was set for mid-August of 2022. But, when it came time to playtest, the game failed to live up to his expectations, so it was delayed once again. So, he decided to rework some things and aim for a month later, in mid-September. If you’re reading this at publication, you can probably tell — it was delayed for a third time.
When Does Choo-Choo Charles Release?
It would seem that there’s some good news! According to Eisenbeisz, the game’s so close to completion that he’s revealed the for sure, totally not going to be delayed again release date! Choo-Choo Charles will release for PC via Steam on December 9, 2022.
