Pokemon Planet is a fan-made game that has caught a lot of attention from players and has been popular for a number of years. The game received mixed reactions, with some people liking it a lot and others criticizing it heavily due to bugs and lack of development and updates in recent years. The single-developer model of it was also criticized as players mentioned that the support was slow or unresponsive.

Pokemon Planet received praise for being easily accessible via a browser, but users on Reddit mentioned that it still lacked some functionalities because of that. The lack of a story and the ability to cut a lot of corners have also been disapproved of.

In 2022, it seems that a certain player base is still there, but the numbers are well behind those of the official Pokemon games.
