With so many things in Fortnite to choose from, and with new melee options being added such as the Shockwave Hammer or the Witcher’s sword, it is more important than ever to clearly define what makes a ranged weapon in the battle royale game. For starters, anything that hits the enemy itself, such as a pickaxe, is not considered a ranged weapon. In fact, this would fall into the classification of a melee weapon.

Ranged weapons in Fortnite are everything that can damage another player from a far away range. For example, all of the guns in Fortnite can be called ranged weapons, even ones like shotguns that require the player to get up close and personal. Additionally, throwable items such as grenades or Boogie Bombs can also be considered ranged weapons in the game. For the complete list of every ranged weapon in Fortnite, check out the wiki for more information.

Some of the weirdest ranged weapons include Sentry Cameras, which are considered ranged weapons because they use a laser to alert security robots of a player’s intrusion onto their property. Additionally, Thor’s Mjolnir Strike using the Mjolnir hammer is also considered a ranged weapon, because it is a consumable that lets players drop a hammer wherever they wish.
