Here's how skinning works in Weird West.

Skinning and tanning animal hides and skins is a process that dates back to ancient times. It’s rough out there in the wild west, and food and animal hides are in demand.

In Weird West, there are a variety of animals you can skin, including bears, deer, bison, and snakes. Assuming you have the right tools for the job, you can skin these animals for their skins, hides, and pelts, which you can use to craft or upgrade vests for better protection and resistance. Below, we’ll give you a rundown of how to skin animals and how skinning works in Weird West.

How to Skin Animals in Weird West

Here’s how to skin animals in Weird West:

  1. Purchase a Skinning Toolbag from a tailor.
  2. Find and kill something with a skinnable hide.
  3. Press and hold “E” to skin the animal.

Before you can consider skinning animals, you’ll need the right tools. We have a guide explaining where to get the Skinning Toolbag, so check that out if you need some help. This will set you back about $80. After you’ve acquired the proper tools, you can go out hunting.

After that, all you need to do is go out and hunt some animals. There’s a variety of wildlife out on the frontier, so you won’t have any issues finding something that’s skinnable. When you find a suitable creature for skinning, eliminate it and press and hold your loot button (the “E” key by default). You should see the options to skin the animal.

You can take your animal hides and skins to the tanning rack located in the Dagger & Bones Trading Company shop in Crackle. Visit the tanning rack, and use identical animal hides to craft or upgrade a Vest. Vests are basically your character’s armor, and they grant protection and elemental resistance. If you have, for example, a bearskin vest, you will need bear pelts to upgrade it at a tanning rack.
