Tell Me If You've Heard This One Before ...

It’s been said before, and it will probably be said again. It seems more games ship broken these days than any other time in the history of the industry. Tell me if you’ve heard this one before. An eagerly awaited game finally gets a release date, only to have critical and seemingly impossible errors at launch. It looks like The Callisto Protocol is no exception, unfortunately. Fans have voiced their frustrations about The Callisto Protocol.

The Callisto Protocol Fans Voice Frustrations Over Broken Game

If you look on Twitter and/or Reddit, there’s no shortage of players complaining about The Callisto Protocol. To be frank, the game’s only been out for less than a day as of writing, and the PC version has already been deemed a failure by players. To make matters worse, even if you resort to a console variant, the only one that doesn’t look to be struggling is the PS4/PS5 version/s.

It wouldn’t be as big of a deal if the studio behind The Callisto Protocol wasn’t tweeting about the next six months of content before their game had even launched. If they knew they were launching a broken game, but instead of doing anything about it, they chose to sweep it under the rug and try to make up for it with some cosmetics and a New Game Plus, that’s … just wrong.

What Can Be Done?

I am unsure what should be done about these games that are in development for years only to release unfinished. We could blame the players for participating in hype culture and holding these games to an unrealistic standard. We could blame the financiers at these studios for rushing a game out the door before they’re ready.

But, at the end of the day, we need to do something, because it’s not ceasing. The Callisto Protocol is but one example of this new standard. It has happened before, and it’ll happen again.
