Starfield release date

When does Starfield Release?

Starfield is one of the numerous cryptids of the modern gaming industry. Bethesda released its first trailer for this thing back in 2018, and since then, it’s been almost complete radio silence. Barring some allegedly leaked screenshots of rather dubious origin, nobody even knows what kind of game Starfield is supposed to be. It doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page, just a footnote on Bethesda’s page. I checked! That being said, as of today, we do have at least a hint of a hint of when it might be released, so that’s a start. So, when does Starfield release?

Earlier today, Bloomberg writer Jason Schreier, a known insider on the goings on of Bethesda and the gaming industry, addressed some of the rumors that have been floating around in the last few months that Starfield is basically done. If you were hoping he’d confirm these rumors, get ready to be disappointed.

When does Starfield Release?

“Rumors like this keep floating around but Starfield is nowhere near done, according to several ppl familiar with development,” he wrote on his Twitter. “It’ll be at E3 but the planned release date I’ve heard is way later than most people expect. Sharing this so that folks keep their expectations in check.”

“What people might not realize is that the bulk of Bethesda Game Studios, including the MD office, was working on Fallout 76 until it launched. Starfield’s team was very small until 2019. Rumors that the game was planned for 2020 or far into production then are just not true.”

Following these tweets, though, Schreier made an additional tweet with a clarification that may inspire a spot of hope.

“Let me make this very clear: Bethesda’s plan is to tease a release date for Starfield at E3. That date is in *late* 2022. I’ll leave the specifics to them. But please keep your expectations in check and refrain from sending death threats when the other rumors turn out to be false.”

So, assuming Schreier speaks the truth, we will, at the bare minimum, receive acknowledgement of Starfield next month at E3. So… that’s a start!
