Rumors have circulated for months about the status of PlayStation’s GamePass competitor, Spartacus. The service is meant to be Sony’s answer to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass, which gives users a large catalog of games new and old. It will be a combination of PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus. This new service is supposedly launching this spring.
Classic PlayStation Games Could Join The Service
Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb gave an update on its release date during the latest episode of his podcast Grubbsnax. “It’s probably getting pretty close to this actually launching,” he said. “Something’s probably going to happen by the end of this month and I don’t think that necessarily means publicly, I think in terms of the internal milestone of where the service needs to be.”
Grubb also reiterated what was previously reported about the service’s tiers. There will be three tiers, with the first, Essential, basically being what PlayStation Plus currently is. The next tier, Extra, will offer a large catalog of downloadable games, making this essentially PlayStation Now. The final tier, Premium, will include the first two tiers as well as classic games and game trials.
“I don’t know what classic games means, but I do know that it’s a major part of this premium tier,” Grubb said. This could possibly mean that PS1, PS2, and PS3 games could come to the service. Nothing has been revealed by Sony regarding its existence but if the reports are true, we will know something very soon.
