Could Destiny Become a PlayStation Exclusive Game?

Today, Sony revealed that they plan to purchase Bungie for about $3.6 billion. When the deal finalizes, the studio will become a subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment. Sony has promised that the studio will remain multiplatform, silencing rumors about games being exclusive to PlayStation consoles.

SIE President and CEO Jim Ryan had the following to say about the deal: “We’ve had a strong partnership with Bungie since the inception of the Destiny franchise, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to officially welcome the studio to the PlayStation family.” In a blog post, Bungie outlined their future under Sony. The company has said that they will remain independent and assured that their games will stay multiplatform.

This deal is shocking to many as Bungie had once been associated with Microsoft due to their involvement with the Halo franchise. Bungie employees were also shocked as many didn’t know about the deal’s existence until today. January has seen many acquisitions in gaming, as Take-Two purchased Zynga earlier this month, and Microsft purchased Activision Blizzard just recently.
