Sony Gives a First Look at the PlayStation VR2 Headset

This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information

In January, Sony unveiled PlayStation VR2 to the public. This new iteration of the company’s take on virtual reality is said to be a massive improvement of the original PlayStation VR. A website detailing what to expect from both the controller and headset appeared recently. Now we have our first official look at the PlayStation VR2 headset.

The Headset Sports a PS5-Like Design

A post on the PlayStation Blog features new details about the PS VR2 headset. The first noticeable detail about the headset as well as the controller is how similar their designs are. Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of Platform Experience, describes this as “a matching ‘orb’ look.” He also added, “The circular orb shape represents the 360-degree view that players feel when they enter the virtual reality world.”

The headset also draws inspiration from PS5 and its related products. Nishino says that players will notice this when they get their hands on it. This headset is also slimmer than the previous one and still manages to have new features such as a motor for headset feedback and a lens adjustment dial. This was apparently challenging for the developers during development until a solution was found.

Other features included in the headsets include 4K graphical quality and camera tracking. No release date has been given for the headset, but games are currently being developed by studios in possession of PS VR2 development kits.
