Remedy Teaming Up With Rockstar to Remake Max Payne 1 and 2

Remedy Teaming Up With Rockstar to Remake Max Payne 1 and 2

The third-person shooter series is getting a remake.

The Max Payne series was originally developed by Remedy Entertainment until the company parted ways with publisher Rockstar Games following the release of the second game. Max Payne 3 was developed internally at Rockstar Games and while it isn’t by any means a bad game, its critical reception and fan response was more mixed compared to Max Payne 1 and 2. These days Remedy have found themselves developing many games including Alan Wake 2, a Control sequel, and, as of today, a remake of both Max Payne 1 and 2.

Max Payne 1 and 2 Will Be Developed as A Single Title

According to a press release from Remedy Entertainment, the studio has entered an agreement with former publisher Rockstar Games to remake both Max Payne 1 and 2. Sam Houser, known for his work in the GTA games, expressed excitement at the idea of working with Remedy again: “We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games. We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”

The games will be developed for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC as a single title. This has happened with many remakes such as Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2 and the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. The games won’t be using Rockstar technology. Instead they’ll be developed using Remedy’s Northlight game engine. However, Rockstar will be financing the project.

No release date is available as the games are currently in the “concept development stage.”
