Pokémon GO - All Eevee Names and Evolutions (Eeveelutions) Guide

Thanks to its flexible evolutionary typing, as well as its plain old cuteness, Eevee has managed to establish itself as almost a secondary Pokémon mascot, sharing top billing with Pikachu in several games and productions. I suppose it’s only right then that it receives its own Community Day event in Pokémon GO, which began August 13th and ends on August 16th. But if you want to take full advantage of the festivities, you need to know how to evolve Eevee into its many forms. Here’s a guide on all of Eevee’s names and evolutions in Pokémon GO.

What are the Eevee nicknames in Pokémon GO?

Eevee has eight different evolutions (or Eeveelutions), broken up into groups that evolve in different ways. In addition to these “proper” means of evolution, you can also guarantee an Eevee will evolve in a particular way by giving it a certain nickname. Those nicknames are:

  • Vaporeon: Rainer
  • Jolteon: Sparky
  • Flareon: Pyro
  • Espeon: Sakura
  • Umbreon: Tamao
  • Leafeon: Linnea
  • Glaceon: Rea
  • Sylveon: Kira

If you give an Eevee one of these names, then give it enough Candy to evolve, it’ll evolve into the form the name is associated with. Remember, though, these nicknames can only be used once per evolution. If you name two Eevees “Pyro,” only one is guaranteed to evolve into a Flareon.

Eevee Evolution Groups in Pokémon GO

Now, let’s cover those “evolution groups” I mentioned. The first group is composed of Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon. Eevee will randomly evolve into one of these three Pokémon when given 25 Eevee candy. Unfortunately, besides the name trick, there’s no way to know which one you’ll get until you get it.

The second group is composed of Espeon and Umbreon. Normally, you’d have to make the Eevee your buddy, walk 10km with them, then give it the Candy to evolve during the day for Espeon or at night for Umbreon. However, while the Eevee Community Day is going on, whether due to a bonus or a bug, all you have to do is make the Eevee your buddy, and you can evolve it right away, though the time requirement is still there.

The third group is composed of Leafeon and Glaceon. These forms are obtained by evolving Eevee within proximity of a PokéStop using a particular Lure Module; a Mossy Lure for Leafeon, and a Glacial Lure for Glaceon. Normally, these items are shop-exclusive, but during the event, you can earn them from completing Timed Research.

The final and newest group includes only Sylveon. In normal times, you’d have to make Eevee your buddy, then play and interact with it enough to earn 70 Buddy Hearts before you can evolve it into Sylveon. That’s no small task, which is why it’s nice that, for the Community Day event, they’ve dialed things back. As long as the event is running, you only need to earn 7 Buddy Hearts with your Eevee to evolve it into Sylveon.
