In early-January, Blizzard revealed Battle of Olympus mode in Overwatch 2. In this limited time free-for-all, players could wield the unique abilities of the Greek pantheon. It being a temporary mode, it was clearly an experiment for the future of Overwatch 2. And now, we have explicit evidence that not only will Battle of Olympus be back, there will be new variants of it introduced … eventually.
In a retrospective on the second season of Overwatch 2, they take a look back at what worked and didn’t work when it comes to Battle of Olympus.
“Specifically, we did not expect that players would pursue all hero titles during the event,” the writer of the retrospective, who goes unnamed, said. “We think some challenges were too difficult to complete in aggregate. Based on your feedback, we also plan to make a team deathmatch version and enable the mode in custom games the next time it runs.”
It’s not clear when the mode will be re-run. All we know at the moment is that it will be re-run. In addition, we also have confirmation that a team deathmatch variant is in the works.
For those not in the know, Battle for Olympus assigned seven characters a Greek pantheon equivalent. For example, Ramattra was Poseidon, Junker Queen was Zeus, and Roadhog was the Cyclops.
“Alongside their divine ultimates, heroes have unique interactions with one another as they ascend from mortal to myth in Battle for Olympus,” the announcement said.
