There’s a new loadout system coming to Destiny 2 with Lightfall, and it’s about time. Guardians all over the system have been clamoring for an official loadout system for years now, and we’re finally getting one. Remember spending 10+ minutes between activities fixing your mods? Bungie’s new Destiny 2 loadout system will allow players to save up to 10 loadouts per character, for a total of 30. Within each loadout, you’ll be able to save:

  • The weapons you want in all three slots.
  • The armor you want in all five slots.
  • The mods you want to be equipped on your armor.
  • Your subclass build, including Fragments and Aspects.

By switching to a loadout, you’ll automatically equip the items you’ve saved to it. That’s about as comprehensive as a loadout system coming to Destiny 2 could be. With the exception of ornaments, which we’re not sure about, you’ll be able to customize everything about each loadout.

This’ll allow you to experiment more freely with different builds and subclasses, as well as dramatically reduce the dead time between encounters. We’ve all experienced having to spend 10 minutes getting our Grandmaster build set up, only to get rid of it once we’re done with the Strike. Well, all that waiting around is about to be a thing of the past.

Other Changes to Destiny 2’s Loadout System

On top of introducing the loadout system to Destiny 2, Bungie is also streamlining the armor and build systems. Mods are getting a complete rework to allow for more flexibility – something reflected by the fact that they’re doing away with armor Elemental affinity,

Previously, you needed to match your armor’s Elemental type to the mod you’re using. This typically resulted in a lot of wasted materials as players paid to switch their Masterworked armor’s affinity back and forth throughout a season.

By getting rid of that hangup, you’ll be able to switch your builds without having to worry about changing armor types to suit mods.

Lastly, Bungie is also overhauling its non-combat mod system. As it stands pre-Lightfall, we have ammo finder mods for each weapon type, holster mods for each weapon type, and so on. Once Lightfall drops, that’s going away.

Instead, we’ll be getting mods that do the same thing but are more generic, based on things like whether or not the weapon is Kinetic. This, again, aims to cut down the dead time between switching loadouts.
