Metroid Dread Power Bomb Location

Metroid Dread Power Bomb Location

The maps in Metroid games are packed with breakable blocks, often hidden by the terrain and blocking access to paths and upgrades. Many of these blocks can be dispatched with your beam, missiles, or Morph Ball bomb, but sometimes, your basic weapons simply aren’t enough. When there’s too many blocks to break at once, you gotta pull out the nuclear option. You gotta pull out… the Power Bomb. Here’s the Power Bomb location in Metroid Dread.

The Power Bomb upgrade is obtained from the red EMMI found in Hanubia, the very last EMMI unit you’ll encounter in the game. Unlike the other EMMIs, though, you’ll encounter the red one without a source of Omega Cannon energy, leaving you helpless. Or at least you would be helpless if Samus doesn’t go nuts and tear the thing apart with her bare hands. There’s a reason for that, but we’re not talking about that right now.

Before you can absorb the Power Bomb data, you’ll need to defeat a Red Chozo Soldier. By this point in the game, you’ve already defeated one of these guys, but here’s a quick breakdown in case you need a refresher.

  1. The Red Chozo Soldier will deploy a shield; wait for it to tap the shield on the ground, then counter at the spark to destroy it. Once the shield is gone, dodge its attacks while pelting the Soldier with Storm Missiles.
  2. After it takes enough damage, the Red Chozo Soldier will reveal its X mouth and begin shooting black goo at you. When it hangs on the wall, wait for it to charge up, then slide/shift left or right to dodge the beam. Watch out for the waves of goo that shoot out when it plunges into the ground.
  3. Continuously shoot the Soldier with Storm Missiles while dodging its attacks, then complete the final counter sequence to destroy it.

Once the Soldier is scrapped, Samus will claim the Power Bomb data from the scrapped EMMI. To use a Power Bomb, just switch into Morph Ball form and hold down the R button to charge up. When you’re charged, place a Bomb and it’ll automatically become a Power Bomb, which will wipe out any destructible blocks, reveal any blocks it can’t destroy, and damage all enemies in its blast radius.
