Mario Kart 8 is still one of the top-selling games on the Nintendo Switch even though it’s a port of a game released in 2014. Because of its successful sales, fans have wondered if or when Nintendo would ever release a sequel. That may change this year as gaming industry analyst Dr. Serkan Toto has speculated that Nintendo may announce Mario Kart 9 sometime this year.
Maro Kart 9 Could Cross the Finish Line in 2022
In a GamesIndustry.biz article about gaming predictions for 2022, Toto said the following: “I am aware Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling very well on the Nintendo Switch but Mario Kart 9 is in active development (and comes with a new twist) and Nintendo could tease it this year.” It would make sense for a new Mario Kart game to have “a new twist.”
Since Double Dash, every game has had some new mechanic. Double Dash had two drivers for each kart, Mario Kart Wii had motion controls, and Mario Kart 8 featured the anti-gravity sections on course tracks. Toto also went on to speculate that a new mobile game could be coming from Nintendo based on one of their established IPs. The company’s last mobile game was Mario Kart Tour in 2019.
