What to Use Money on in DREDGE

In this new Fishing Horror Game, the aim of the game is to fish your way into gaining the most money possible towards upgrading your Boat. As you upgrade you will build upon the Boat’s surfaces, resulting in a stronger Boat that can withstand the harsher conditions and the larger fish below. As you fish, you will need to stock up your catch inside your Boat’s Cargo. You start with a limited space of 36 slots, as you upgrade however your Cargo Hold will increase in size. But for those getting started, you will see how each species of fish you encounter and catch takes a different amount of slot numbers, with the most basic fish being 2 slots total in width.

The aim of the game then becomes how quickly you can fish and place the caught fish appropriately inside the Cargo so that you can completely fill this out and sell your load at the end of the day. Selling the fish will reward you with money that should immediately be used to upgrade your Boat.

How to Get Rich Quickly in DREDGE

DREDGE is a repeated cycle of fishing, moving around your catch in the Cargo Hold so you have space for other fish when you catch more. As you move around the open waters you should look out for the surface bubbles and refer to the shadows of the fish below for their size. When starting Day 1, you should focus on fishing larger fish on your first day, these are the ‘L’ shaped fish that will reward you with more money than the standard 2 slot fish.

Prioritize and Catch Trophy Fish

Trophy Fish are rare fish that appear in a shoal that when fishing you will need to successfully click the ‘Pull’ button (F) when the dial goes around to the Golden slot. By timing this correctly, you will have caught the Trophy Fish which sells for more money than the standard Green slot fish. The Golden slot however is narrower in design, meaning that it is much harder to catch due to the smaller frame of time in which you can hit the ‘Pull’ button.

Be Sure to Rotate the Fish in Cargo

When you catch fish, be sure to use the Rotate keys (left- and right-click) to fit these into the Cargo without removing unnecessary space from the Hold. Be sure to keep track of the size and shape of the fish and do not rush when placing the fish into the Hold, otherwise you may put the fish down into a space that makes it so you cannot put anything else beside, above or underneath it. You want to end with a filled Cargo Hold. Of course, you will have Boat related items and your Rod inside the Hold also, so make sure to work around this by placing fish in a spot which leaves no slot empty. In this case, the last thing you want is everything filled by a singular slot remaining that you cannot fill due to your layout.

Fish During the Day and Avoid Taking Damage Early

You should be fishing during the day from 7am to 6pm in-game time. This will fly by of course, but you should be able to completely fill your Cargo at this point. You should not attempt to fish at night on the first day as the chances of you being attacked and losing the Boat is massive. Focus on upgrading your Boat as soon as possible by fishing throughout the day, aiming to catch all fish from a minimum of 4 locations.

By fishing during the day and docking in the evening, you will keep your fish fresh and not risk losing their freshness which in turn, keeps their value when selling. If you do go out at night, either to hit Fishmonger Requests or to hunt for bigger fish, be sure to turn the Boat’s lights on and keep near the coast line otherwise you risk hitting rocks as the Boat’s light does not reach far enough to have a good grasp on where you are at all times. If you take any damage you will have to pay for repairs, which is a massive set-back for those trying to get rick quickly in DREDGE.

Complete Fishmonger Requests

The Fishmonger will give you Requests that require specific fish for you to catch. But hitting these, you will be rewarded with more money. You can complete these Requests throughout the day by heading to the Fishmonger whenever you catch the fish he asks for and giving him it. He will hold the fish, keeping it fresh so that when you return again to complete the Request, all fish will be fresh and you will receive the most amount of money possible.

Purchase a Better Rod

Finally, you should purchase a better Fishing Rod as soon as possible, we recommend the Weighted Line Rod for now which will cost you $150. Whilst this will be the first thing you buy over Boat upgrades, it will allow you to catch bigger fish, resulting in getting more money faster. Just be sure that if you do this, you are not risking your Boat’s integrity by fishing at night.
