Hogwarts Legacy Debuts Gameplay During Today’s State of Play Event

Hogwarts Legacy has been anticipated by gamers and Harry Potter fans since its debut almost two years ago. Since then, Avalanche Software has remained quiet on the game, not giving out too much information. Today, another State of Play event took place giving fans their first look at gameplay from the upcoming Harry Potter game.

Hogwarts Legacy puts the player in the shoes of a student who transfers as a fifth-year student and has to catch up with the rest of their classmates. The main character also has the ability to use ancient magic. All of this occurs as a Goblin rebellion takes place which causes an alliance between dark wizards and Goblins.

As the player begins the game, they’ll get the chance to wear the sorting hat and find out which house they’ll live in. They’ll attend classes with lessons that can assist in combat later on. Speaking of combat, players will face off against many creatures, including the previously mentioned goblins as well as dark wizards and witches.

Because this is a Harry Potter game, a wand is the main weapon, along with spells and potions. Enchanted weaponry can also be later on in the game. Spells and direct weapon strikes can easily be deflected using a shield charm. Players can return fire with stunning charms and spell combos to do some damage. The spells mentioned during the event were Descendo and Incendio, but many more are available, judging by the gameplay.

Some of these spells can be taught to the player by companions they meet at Hogwarts in common rooms, hallways, and gathering areas. Companions can teach things to the player after becoming friends with them and further open up to share more information about themselves, given enough rapport.

The full State of Play event can be viewed here on the PlayStation YouTube channel. Sadly, there is no concrete release date, despite the rumors circulating these past few weeks. All we know is that the game will be available for the 2022 Holiday season.
