Hogwarts Legacy Banned by the GDQ

Can Hogwarts Legacy ever catch a break?

Prepare yourselves for this one. Hogwarts Legacy is now banned by the GDQ (Games Done Quick) organization. With all of the controversy the game has gotten recently, this one was shocking. It looks like the organization which is well-known for hosting charities and speed run marathons decided enough is enough with the negativity within the Hogwarts Legacy community. GDQ has decided to put its foot down and will not be allowing the game to be used in their speed runs. Here’s everything we know about why GDQ decided to ban Hogwarts Legacy.

GDQ Bans Hogwarts Legacy

There have been quite a few games in the past that were banned by the GDQ. This includes game titles such as Air Control, God of War (2005), and now Hogwarts Legacy makes that list. If we look at Games Drone Quick rules for why a game would be on their list they make it clear that they don’t support games with sexual and violent content, games that have been banned on Twitch, games with an ESRB rating of adults only, and much more. You can find that list here.

GDQ hasn’t given a reason for why they’re banning Hogwarts Legacy but with the negative reputation it has due to author J.K. Rowling making comments about the transgender community, this might be the reason. Will they change their minds in the future? Who knows, but where things stand now, they’re not including the game.

Hogwarts Legacy Allegations

Due to the author of J.K. Rowling making comments about the transgender community, the game has gotten a bit of heat. Players have tried raiding Twitch streams and bullying other creators who play the game. They’ve voiced their opinions on TikTok telling people not to buy it or play it and if you do, you’re supporting J.K. Rowling’s claims. Many gamers have shunned all Harry Potter content as a result of the controversy including the game.

Despite the backlash, Hogwarts Legacy has become a juggernaut with sales.
