The record attempt event was originally scheduled to take place in Bahrain. However, due to travel restrictions, the event was streamed live on Hafthor’s Twitch channel instead. You can watch the Thor Twitch deadlift replay below, and also catch it on his YouTube channel.

Bjornsson lifted the barbell for two seconds before dropping the weights to the ground and celebrating.

Hafthor stands 6 feet 9 inches tall and previously won events like World’s Strongest Man in 2018. The deadlift record prior to this event was held by Eddie Hall, who was the first man to deadlift 500kg in 2016.

From the official video on his YouTube, Hafthor says: “I’m extremely proud, you know. I’m extremely happy.” He was delighted to prove the doubters wrong. “…so many people that said, ‘501kg is never going up’, but I also had a lot of support.”
