Dark and Darker – How to Create the Best Ranger

Take down your enemies from a distance!

Dark and Darker has not launched fully as the game is not yet finished, however what players are able to do now has already been making them fall in love with the game. There are plenty of things to do in this new take on the classic dungeon-crawler genre, and with options to either play alone or in a party, this game appeals everyone. Due to its many classes, weapons and the vast amount of gear this game has, there are many customizations and builds that players can fiddle around with to figure out which are the best.

One of these classes, the Ranger, has already proven to be a standout pick amongst the other five. With unlimited ammo – arrows – and many different types of gear to boost your stats, the Ranger is a fearsome foe and a powerful ally. In this guide, we have created some of the things that you will need to have one of the best Ranger builds in Dark and Darker.

The Ranger is one of two classes that have mainly ranged attacks in the game, the other being the Wizard. However, the Ranger does not need to do the equivalent of the Wizard’s meditation in order to replenish its arrows, making it the more consistent of the two in terms of combat. It is also more skill-based in that whether you hit your target or not largely depends on aim and talent.

The Ranger can use its Field Ration Skill to passively heal, which makes it very easy to kite enemies and recover health before rejoining the fight, fully healed. The Ranger is weak in the short range, but is one of if not the best class to pick for any medium to long ranged battle.

Skills that should be selected for the Ranger include its Field Ration Skill, mentioned above, for passive healing. Also, the True Shot skill makes arrows that the Ranger fires travel faster, meaning they are harder to dodge, predict or react to. Quick Shot increase the Rangers attack speed, turning their bow into a veritable machine gun as they pepper their enemies with arrows.

Great perks for the Ranger are the Kinesthesia perk, which will let the Ranger dodge attacks or also reposition while they are aiming, which is not an uncommon occurrence in a fight. Additionally, select the Sharpshooter perk as this makes already-destructive headshots from the Ranger all the more powerful in combat. Lastly, the Ranged Weapons Expert is a must-have that gives the Ranger a general damage buff when using any bows.

For armor and gear, make sure to focus on keeping your movement speed high, so avoid gear that will reduce this stat. Also, look for whatever has the highest defense without compromising your movement speed, as we mentioned, so that you can stay protected and in the fight for as long as possible. The Ranger hoods, Warden outfits and the Doublets are all great picks for Ranger players to use. For weapons, choose gear like the Crossbow, Longbow or Recurve Bow to punish your enemies from afar. If they get close, you’ll want either a Spear or a Rapier to deal with them quickly.

Good luck on creating the best build that you can when you play Dark and Darker as the Ranger class!
