One of the biggest games of the early 2010s was Crystal Dynamics’ 2013 reboot of the Tomb Raider series. In the years that followed, it received two sequels, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The release of the last game signified the end of the reboot trilogy and caused fans to wonder when Lara Croft would return. During an event today, it was announced that a new Tomb Raider was in the works and that it would be created using the newly released Unreal Engine 5.
The Game Will “Push the envelope of fidelity”
During Epic Games’ State of Unreal event, Dallas Dickinson, general manager of the Tomb Raider franchise, appeared to let everyone know that a brand-new Tomb Raider game built using Epic’s Unreal Engine 5 was on the way. No gameplay was shown but Dickinson did reveal that it would be a “high-quality cinematic action-adventure experience.”
He also revealed that the developers would be attempting to “push the envelope of fidelity.” There is currently no release date for this Tomb Raider game. This would be Crystal Dynamics’ first entry in the Tomb Raider since the release of 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Since then, the company has released Marvel’s Avengers and continued to support the game with post-launch content and updates.
